Title: For the new folks Post by mediccpc on Feb 2nd, 2004, 10:52am I just found this site and it is great. I have had cluster headaches since the age of 12. It has been 26 years I have been a suffer. My question goes to treatment. Currently, I do the Imtrex treatment. I ususlly get 3 headaches a day. What is available to take after the 2 doses of Imtrex have been used? In the past year I have been getting chest tightness when using Imtrex. Any other ideas? I'm sorry we have to go through this. I feel good knowing there are floks out there who know what It feels like. Thank you, and look forward to your response. |

Title: Re: For the new folks Post by BobG on Feb 2nd, 2004, 11:24am On the left side of your screen is a button 'imitrex tip'. Click it and you'll find a way to cut the 6mg injector dose to three 2mg doses. The 6mg dose is for migraines. Most folks find a 2 or 3mg dose is enough for clusters. Saves bucks on the cost and strain on the heart. |

Title: Re: For the new folks Post by mediccpc on Feb 2nd, 2004, 11:39am I did try the oxygen, I did not get any relief from that. I may need to give it another try. I am on the down side of a 5 week bout. |

Title: Re: For the new folks Post by henzey on Feb 2nd, 2004, 2:34pm I strongly encourage you to try taking the melatonin as a preventative for your next bout....it has worked for several folks here to the point that they have been able to really cut back on their imitrex or O2 usage. It appears that taking 3 mg of regular plus 2.5 mg slow release has worked for several but some take even more. However, you cannot take melatonin if you are on certain medications, so you need to check that out. I have had very good luck with a low dosage of Topamax as a preventive, but pay a price with being more introverted and incredibly constipated...so am a good customer of Exlax for the time being. I do NOT recommend it for higher dosages, but some folks have the headaches so bad that these other side effects aren't so bad (it's all relative...ya know??). |

Title: Re: For the new folks Post by Giovanni on Feb 2nd, 2004, 8:08pm Hello, Ditto on the melatonin advice above....helped me. You'll have to determine your dosage a bit by trail and error. 9mg works well for me, but might be too much for you. Also, the imitrex tip to the left is used by many people to stretch out the injections to cover more headaches without overdosing. This company will sell you insulin syringes and sterile vials for dividing up your imitrex. You might perfer this method over using the same needle more than once. http://www.earthstores.com/gpzservices/ Best of luck, John |

Title: Re: For the new folks Post by t_h_b on Feb 2nd, 2004, 8:38pm O.5mg of melatonin here. Are you on a preventative such as verapamil? You need both preventative and abortive meds. |
