Hi all,

hope your holidays are going well. just wanted to share a story.

i overdosed on Imitrex a couple weeks ago and ended up in the ER. basically my meds have just crapped out and i have been getting 4-6 attacks a day. don't know why. the meds were working for a while. i would just get one a week maybe. anyway. one day i ran out of oxygen (my own fault, and another warning, always be stocked). so i took Imitrex at 1am, 6am, 830am and felt fine. i was at work and got an attack at about 1230. i felt fine so i took another shot. i had taken 3 before in about a 20 hour period. but never this many in a short period. i took the fourth shot. it took longer than usual to work. about 25 mins after the shot i started feeling pain in my stomach and it got bad quickly. it hurt so much i could barely speak or stand. finally i got a hold of my internist and she along with my neuro suggested i go to the ER. the dr said the blood vessels were probably so constricted that blood wasn't getting to my gut and bowels. got to the ER about an hour after my stomach pains started and i started feeling better. they fed me and took blood and saw the lactaid levels were high which i guess just indicated what the dr told me. so they said don't do it again and i was very lucky. the nuero told me that i could have cause internal bleeding and don't do it again. so i'm not going to do it again :)

just a warning to my cluster family.

Doesn't sound like you overdosed at all ... just ran into a few side effects. Imitrex can cause many different side effects (like any drug can), such as chest pain, heartburn, indegestion, burning / tingling sensation, 'flushed' feeling or hot flashes, etc. etc. etc.
And oh yea, may cause tummy ache !

PS...I've done up to 8 full injections per day on many occasions. [2-5 is now my norm]

It's not the same for everyone. No body is exactly the same. Being careful about your own body telling you right or wrong couldn't hurt I suppose!

Glad to hear you are O.K. Justin.

Do you use the Imitrex tip ? I find 1/2 shot takes away a CH as good as a whole shot. Might save you from taking soooo much.

i took 4 6mg doses in a 12 hour period. it wasn't a tummy ache. it hurt like hell. i could barely speak or walk. two dr.'s told me i took too much. just wanted to share, so that other people could learn from my mistake. i need someone to show me the trick to only use 3mg. my neuro tells me though that glaxo is going to come out with the 3mg stat dose pen system in the US soon. possibly later this year. who knows.
