Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by floridian on Oct 16th, 2003, 6:58pm As a nasal spray, no. It causes as much pain and eye watering as a cluster. In capsule form, maybe. It could have helped switch off a cycle, or it could be that I just happened to try it when that year's torture was ending. When taking large doses internally for long periods, there are some concerns with kidney damage. But for short term use, worth trying. |

Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by ave on Oct 17th, 2003, 5:33am Look for info in the older archives under the search facility top right (not the one in the toolbar, that is for recent archives). I remember people using pepper (or capsaicin) cream, next to their noses, on their temple and even up their noses with some fair results, but not as a proper abortive. |

Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by vig on Oct 17th, 2003, 1:23pm I got it in my eye during an attack and I could feel it immediately soothe the inflamed nerves and stop the cluster. no burning whatsoever. |

Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by JDH on Oct 17th, 2003, 1:31pm I've used Civamide and I think that has cayenne in it. Didn't do diddly for me except make me wish I hadn't used it. The nasal burn was pretty intense AND the ch's raged on. Jim |

Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by vig on Oct 17th, 2003, 1:44pm Civamide is a synthetic form of Capsaicin. Not supposed to burn. |

Title: Re: Cayenne Anyone??? Post by vig on Oct 17th, 2003, 2:58pm Civamide (cis-Capsaicin) for Treatment of Primary or Recurrent Experimental Genital Herpes N. Bourne,* D. I. Bernstein, and L. R. Stanberry Division of Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio or http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00069082?order=1 I guess Civamide is handy for lots of things... and you thought it burned your EYES! or Conclusion: Intranasal civamide solution at a dose of 50 microg may be modestly effective in the preventive treatment of episodic cluster headache. http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/links/doi/10.1046/j.1526-4610.2003.03062_19.x/abs/ I'm sorry... modestly? feeble excuse. |

I took part in a Civamide study about this time last year. They had me use it twice a day for a week and they had me record my h/a's for the following month. Thank god I only had to use it for one week. That is THE nastiest stuff I've tried yet for ch's...with the exception of Stadol :P Anyway, I don't know whether I had a placebo or not but my ch cycle went on for about 4 more months. No more for me thanks, Jim |
