I am taking 480 mg of Verapamil SR, but it isn't working all of the time. Does anyone know what a standard dose for Cluster is? I'm hoping it's higher. I just started using O2, and it really helps alot.

I hae been taking 480mg of Verapamil since April and the Doctor will not go and higher. She said that is as high as she will go with me. I am also taking 100mg of Topamax and 40 mg of Elavil. This seems to be working. I haven't had a CH in eight days. ;D Only minor shadows Kip 3. I can live with them. What other meds are you on other that the Veapamil?

Hi Vi.
Some clusterheads take a higher dose, like 960 mg. But there is something else to consider:

Maybe change to a different formulation. Many clusterheads find that immediate release verapamil works better than ER or SR (although there are some who are having success with SR, myself included).

Whatever you do, check with your doctor first.

Hi Vi,

I'm currently only taking 240mg of ER when I'm in cycle (which should be soon, as I'm starting to feel the shadows). That low of a dosage actually worked during last year's cycle, and I'm hoping that's all I'll need for this year's.

I think most of us around here who take verap. take a higher dosage of it though. I've also heard that some people take 960mg along with other things thrown into the mix.

I can't recall if I've ever tried the SR version.

Are you on anything else with your verap? Definitely talk to your dr. about it.

Hi Group,
I am currently taking Verapamil and Aggrenox, which is a vaso dialator called dyperidimole (not sure of spell), and aspirin. I have clusters, but they don't always get out of the aura phase, and I have had 2 small strokes from them. I use sub lingual nitro pills when I am in a prolonged aura, and steroids to kill pain. And my best friend O2 as well. Hopefully I will be trying the Lithium soon. I have unsucessfully tried Neurontin and Topamax. Thank you all for your information.
