Title: Maxalt-MLT Post by clubmakerbob on Sep 17th, 2003, 11:20am Just found out recently what these headaches I've been getting are and have been given MLT to fight them. Just wondering if any other users found that if taken with liquid the effectivness is diminished? Last "10" I got I chased the pill with water and found it took longer to work on the pain than normal. Could have just been a fluke but thought someone out there may be able to shed some light. TIA for responses. |

Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by Prense on Sep 17th, 2003, 5:40pm MLT is supposed to melt in your mouth...not a pill that needs to be chased. A rinse afterwards, I do not think, would have an effect on the med one way or the other. It never worked for me either way though. |

Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by brewcrew on Sep 17th, 2003, 8:03pm Works great for me. Works faster with O2, but works either way. I think the MLT version (the melt-in-your-mouth kind) is supposed to go to work faster, but I've never found a difference between it and the pill form. For me it's 20 minutes, either form without O2, 10-15 minutes with O2. Like Prense, I seriously doubt if a H2O chaser is going to affect it one way or the other. I will, however, have to try Kim's hot coffee chaser sometime (when it's not a 2:00 a.m. ordeal and there is a decent chance of getting a few more hours' sleep). Bill |

Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by UnsolvedEquation on Sep 18th, 2003, 12:46am Doesn't work at all for me. But I don't think your supposed to swallow it at all. It's supposed to be absorbed by the tongue...it'll get into your system faster via all the blood vessels in the tongue. |

Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by Ueli on Sep 18th, 2003, 8:53am Somehow, but probably not un-welcome to the manufacturer, the notion got a foot hold that the MLT version of Maxalt works faster. But the fact is: the MLT form was made for those people who cannot swallow a pill without some liquid to wash it down. I have seen reports that claim the MLT is slower than the regular pill. Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by Prense on Sep 18th, 2003, 5:43pm That is correct...according to rxlist, MLT takes like an hour and a half to reach it's full potential vs just over an hour for the pill. Both were at 10mg. |

Title: Re: Maxalt-MLT Post by jmorgan52 on Sep 26th, 2003, 3:59am I agree with Ueli on this, and that's a first for me ;D The MLT is for when you can't chase a pill down. As for the effectiveness of them - I have tried them on 6 occasions last year, and an hour later I was still writhing in agony every time. I reckon they are useless (for me anyway) and they gave me absolutely no relief. I was tempted by my Dr's glowing recommendation and their much lower cost than imigran inj but I wasted my bucks.
