Can they prevent CHs?

Jewel,
I recently switched during this last session to a different type of chiropractor.  I switched from the whip and crack type, to an upper cervical manipulator - where no sudden snaps are done, just gentle pushing.

I don't think they can prevent CH (I'll let you know for sure in 1+1/2 - 2 years from now), but he certainly helped lessen the intensity of the neck pain I get during an attack very much.   :)

I have seen the same chiropractor for 9 years now, and she can do some wonderful things. And although she's tried, preventing CH is not one of them.

I enjoy the Chiroprators who crack your back, throw your neck into a vice, and really Whip It (DEVO -1980).    But no relief for the CH.

Like in all things Jewel, we are all different...for some with other problems that the stress of CH attacks excerbate, chiropractors are great at getting relief...as are masseuses...but cure they cannot... :)

Been to all types of chiropractors.  Some crack-happy, some gentle - no prevention at all.  Doesn't even interrupt a cycle.  Also have been to massage therapy/reflexology  - one time during a kip 9.  It was a killer just attempting to stay still (didn't know I had clusters at that time - just thought it was a severe headache) for the massage.  Nothing he did relieved the pain (he even did a foot/hand massage and swore it would help)- that particular headache lasted 2 very long hours - I think this was the longest ch I have ever had (9 years ago).  It happened about a week after I had an epidural.  Nothing like entering a cluster cycle while trying to take care of a newborn!

12 years ago, I got my first cluster attack,1/2 hour after I left a chiropractor's office, i was being treated for neck problems from a car accident.

Not knowing what the attack was, I blamed the chiropractor, he tried everything to stop the attacks, nothing worked. I still don't know and probaly never will if my attacks were related to that chiropratic visit.

A few months later, my neuroligist confirmed that I have CH. , but downplayed any relationship to the chiropratic visit.

I am trying to understand why a chiropractor would even be considered for this.  Is it because of the associated neck pain?  For me, that pain is NOTHING compared to the eye pain.  Just curious...

Prense - My wife had migranes for over 20 years, and a chiro eliminated her headaches. She had a twisted vertebrae in her neck from birth trauma. Once he straightened it out, the headaches went away.

There can be a connection. But like you, I don't see any between clusters and misalignment of the spine.

NO!

Click this and type chiropractor into your Edit/Find box.

I have been talking to a chiropractor that has ccalled me about wanting to help on HSG! I called him and was talking to him about what he did. He said he can make the blood flow better, it doesn't claim to cure but he says he can help reduce the pain in clusters.
I did got to a chiropractor when I first got hit 22 years ago. That guy was good. He tried everything. I would call him at 2 in the morning met him at his office, he worked hard on me. It never helped me. I don't rule them out because I know some of them are looking foe a answer also. Who knows who will find the answer the cure.

My wife also has migraines, and their frequency drops to near zero when she gets regular chiropractic.  But no help for me with clusters.

My wife's skeletal system had gone so out of whack that there were several "specialists" who wanted to shorten one of her legs via surgery. A few visits to the chiropractor and she was as good as new, and no more headaches either.

Kind of makes me wish I had migranes instead.  ;D

Jewel,
Thanks for throwing this one out there. I thought about chiropractic for this. But didn't  bring it up. I've seen it do wonders for all kinds of crazy ailments when the doctors say" We've got to cut you open for that one". Chiropractors do have a very important role in the medical community. If it helps with the stiff neck part of a cycle, then why not try it. For me, the stiff neck part is the least painful but most annoying."Slowly I turn....."
and the journey continues.

Too little is known about CH to say if any one thing works, and you will often find different things working for different people, so you may have to try it and find out for yourself.   Keeping in mind that there are various chiropractors and I would strongly suggest that no chiropractic work be done before x-rays of the neck & spine have been taken otherwise they could create or do further damage.

Gook Luck :)

I cant speak from personal experiance on this one ,but I heard of someone getting relief after adjusting the atlas vertibrae . ( the top most one that connects to the skull .) I thought of trying this myself as this is the area were they start (for me ) before moving up behind my eye. Not all chiropractors can tackle the atlas however ...

Hey all, i had to throw my 2 cents in to this one. I have been adjusted for years keeps me moving. But for the CH it helps me get by but it doesn't cure or prevent. I go once a week and that's about all I see a small change but nothing that kept me from leaving on 2 wk. vacation in the middle of a cycle!

I met a chiro recently. After speaking with him for 5 minutes, he said he knew what was causing my CH and could cure me. That's funny cause some of the best doctors around couldn't cure me. I figured he's just another quack and never went back.
