Title: RIGHT VS. LEFT?
Post by Smurf on Sep 9th, 2003, 1:52pm
I was just wondering why some of us get the CH on the left side, and others on the right side????

I'm a left-side CH-er.  I'm right handed.  Any correlation?

Any left-side CH-ers who are left-handed?  Any right-side CH-ers who are right-handed? Or visa-versa?

Am I just grasping at straws.............?  Any ol' port, I guess.

Right side
Right handed

I have a dimple on my right cheek only.  My right eye is also slightly bigger than my left.  Other possible correlations?    ;) ;D

Jonny,
I did check out the archives before posting, but was a little overwhelmed by all the dates.  Do you know about when folks were discussing sides?

According to the survey on this site (http://www.clusterheadaches.com/survey/index.html) out of 11886 clusterheads there are
44.6% right handed
36.0% left handed
19.4% ambidextrous
I don't know the exact numbers for the general population, but it seems to me for clusterheads they differ quite a lot.

I think I found another correlation between CH and body features: my clusters are on the right side and my right ear is about a quarter of an inch lower than the left.

This topic has been brought up a couple of times in the past.  Not sure of the dates.  But the survey should be enough of a statistic that Ueli stated.

OK, I'll end this since it's been through the ringer already.

A lot of us who are right-handed, have the HA on the left-side - but not exclusively; and visa-versa.

I was told by Dr. Rozin (MHNI) that the affect side pupil will be SMALLER. When there is a difference in the size of pupils it is a sign of (1) seizure activity or (2) trauma.
In most of our cases, trauma best fits the description.

Yes unfortunatallty I am chronic, just about every day.  :-[Sometimes they hit on the left and sometimes on the right. I have been diagnosed as a clusterhead by two different neuros. verap  worked for about a year down to 1-3 HA's per week instead of 1-4 a day. Now that it stopped being effective, Im on depakote (just stated again) O2, Just now am going to try Lidocaine, and of course lots of Imitrex nasal shots.
  MPFDANS to you all

Off this subject, but when I was going to Barrow's Neuro. Institute here in Phoenix, the last dr that I saw there was in the specialty field of seizures.  I told him then, and I still think today, that someday when these monsters are finally figured out, there will be a connection/relationship to seizures.  Could be all wet, but ...............

Oh, I almost forgot.....right handed, left clustered.
