All,

I suffer from cluster headaches for a period of about one week per every few years. They usually come unexpected and the entire week, every nite is pure pain and suffering. After several attemps to try and find a medication that works, My doctor finally prescribed Imitrex Nasal spray. Now, when I get an Attack, I spray each nostril once or twice and the pain diminishes within one to two minutes. Finally I have something that works. I would suggest that you try it!!!

My doctor has just set a 16 tab/month for my Maxalt tabs. I'm having 2 CH's a day so need 60 tabs/month.
My thinking is that I may be able to stretch an Imitrex nasal spray bottle longer than the 16 tabs of Maxalt.
Before I ask my doc for a perscription of Imitrex, was doses are some of you using? Any truth to my stretching theory?

A common problem that most of us have is the quantity of imitrex injections that is needed over one month for aborting CH versus the numbers that the insurance companies will pay. The doctor can ask for an "override" because of medical necessity to a number larger than the maximum allowed with no over ride.

At the start of my CH I could only get two boxes of injections per month. Now with the over ride, I can get 9 boxes per month for $20. I stock up on good months for the bad ones.

A good doctor will do this for you!!

With the imitrex injections, you can stretch one dose into two or three doses which helps. Since I only get 5 vials per month, I have been refilling the rx every month thru out the year so I'm ready when the cycle begins.
Also many Drs have samples to give you, doesnt hurt to ask. Be a Pack rat and collect, collect.
