Title: Migranal vs Imitrex
Post by Orion on Sep 2nd, 2003, 6:07pm
It seems most people are using O2 and Imitrex.  I have been using O2 and Migranal and sometimes the DHE injection when the beast comes for an extended stay.  Is there a reason people don't use Migranal (I use the nasal spray which is great when out of the house)?  I am concerned about the effects on my arteries but I think the Imitrex family of drugs do the same thing.  The other issue is multiple doses.  I try to milk my sprays just like the Imitrex tip to help me fight rebound or long duration attacks. It is a laugh to see the Migranal and Zomig literature about 1 per day or something small for monthly use.  I could easily get into daily usage during the final crecendo of my cycle.

Migranal is a brand name for D.H.E. 45 (dihydroergotamine mesylate), look it up at http://www.rxlist.com/.

D.H.E. is a vasoconstrictor, like Imitrex and the other triptans.  However, D.H.E. is less specific in its targets. Therefore adverse effects on the heart or on peripheral circulation are more likely.
