Title: Zanax Post by tattooz on Sep 1st, 2003, 10:25pm I'm new to the site and I see alot of things that are/have worked for others. Most I have tried. But the one I have been using lately(without RX) is zanax. I'm not sure if it gets rid of the pain, or if it simply knocks me out long enough for the pain to go away......HA.....like it ever really leaves:o. But anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I usually take 1mg bars. I've had a couple that have made me increase the dose but at $5 per 1mg bar. You can see this is going to be VERY short lived. My doc seems to be very sypathetic to the pain but he is also very set in his ways. I also have migranes. I take Zomig for those, it has very little to no effect on CH's. Any ifo on docs in the Ft myers FL area would be of great help. Or links/ info on where to find a new doc. Please and thank you! Title: Re: Zanax Post by HypnoticFreddy on Sep 2nd, 2003, 10:22am First of all it is spelled Xanax (alprozalem). I think you may sleep better and feel less anxiety in your life, but I can't imagine it working for CHs. If it does for you great. But sudden withdrawl from benzodiazepines (like Xanax) can be dangerous. Make sure you taper yourself off. |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by tattooz on Sep 2nd, 2003, 12:10pm Yeah, I don't think there is any relief of pain, but at least I can sleep through the night. Hopefully wake up feeling much better. And yes, I can feel the addictiveness of them. If I'm in a bad cycle and take them for a extended period then stop, the next couple of nights are hell. CAN'T sleep, or Very difficult. |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by HypnoticFreddy on Sep 2nd, 2003, 12:42pm A safer alternative to Xanax (as a benzodiazepine) is Klonopin (or clonazepam). It has a longer half-life than Xanax, and is less addicting. |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by 5-string on Sep 2nd, 2003, 1:02pm A friend of mine from work suggested I get on them when my headaches first started this year. She said that she used to experience headaches all the time and her doctor put her on zanax and hers went away. So for some types of stress related headaches it seems to work. Not for ch's though. Hope this helps you in your research. Mark. |

Title: Xanax Post by HypnoticFreddy on Sep 2nd, 2003, 1:38pm Just remember that lots of medical doctors are adament against the use of Xanax due to it's addictive properties. It's really only intended for short-term (2 weeks) usage. Such as, after the death of a family member, etc. If you really want benzo-wackiness, get yer hands on Rophynol. Yikes! |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by Elaine on Sep 3rd, 2003, 2:13pm Hi tattooz, I can't spell worth a flip either, spelling is no big deal here. I have tried xanax and it helped me a lot. I try to keep it on hand. I don't take it everyday. I take it when I need it. Like when I am getting hit really bad. I might pop one before I go to bed. I have gotten a good night sleep when taking it. Because it is additive, I only use it from time to time. I found it hard to get a scrip from my doctor for it. When I do get it I can make a months supply last me three months. Taking them like every thired day or twice a week. I was chronic and thats how I used them then. When I was working I had to use them to get at least three nights good sleep. I use them on the week- ends ! You can also cut them in half. I am going to warn you of a bad side effect. If you take them say everyday for a week and then stop, it will make you meaner than a hornet! Thats why I don't take them all the time. If it works for you and it doesn't make you nuts then use it. I also would advice you to try imitrex or O2 for the clusters that do break through. Neither of those are additive. Both of those are great abortive. |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by tattooz on Sep 3rd, 2003, 10:24pm I have tried o2, and Imatrex is a practically a joke to me. I have found NO relief using both injections and tablets/pills. I'm surprised to hear that it works for so many people..........and yes now that ya mention it,I usually am REAL short tempered after a couple of days on xanax. Never related the two. OK, that throws the Xanax out the window. Like a young couples marrige, 2 kids, and CH's aren't enough pressure. OK so......Let's review.LOL o2=relief on minor CH's Xanax=Dancing bears then >:( Imatrex= lol Ice pack= ;DBest friend and cheap!!!!! 1 bill for drywall patching=$87.32 A decade w/o a CH= priceless Well I'm back to square 1. ??? |

Title: Re: Zanax Post by Elaine on Sep 4th, 2003, 10:06am tattooz, you have to research, I think when I first came here I read everything and talked to as many people as I could. There are other abortives and proventives. Just because one did not work don't mean another one won't ! Good luck in your search! |
