Title: cooling fan Post by ksmiggy on Aug 14th, 2003, 1:39pm Call me mad, but i have lately found that sitting with my head in front of a fan at the first feelings of tightening in the head has help reduce the attack before it starts, about a 60% success rate, also a herbal (not that herbal) stick (4head) has been of great help(menthol and natural painkiller) (rub/dab around affected area) both have helped, has anyone else tried either? |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by ksmiggy on Aug 15th, 2003, 6:38am seems to me there are 2 types, those who prefer heat during an attack, and those who prefer cold, for those who prefer cold , i would also suggest useing vic's menthol around the temple and across the forehead, worth a try, it's help me out a few times, always worth a try, does anyone else feel like they have a golf ball up their nose at any time during an attack |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by Smurf on Aug 15th, 2003, 8:49am ksmiggy, I'm a coldie like you. I wake up absolutely boiling with a CH and have to put an ice pack on my neck while I breathe the O2. Sometimes, I will also just plopp in front of the AC wide open. If I'm not at home, where my trusty O2 is, I go to my car and crank it wide open. I only start feeling the CH lift when I start getting chills. Tip, get on your knees and bend your head down to it, like you're bowing. It sounds crazy but works for me. Let me know if that works. As a coldie, the main target to relieve the pain for me is get as cold as possible as soon as possible. I wish I could fill the tub with ice.... ;D |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by ksmiggy on Aug 15th, 2003, 5:57pm smurf, have tried bowing, sometimes helps, the waking up red hot is spot on, got a jell filled mask, pretty good, helps a lot. if you can get it try the menthol stick, cools the head straight away. if i need to get cold, i have a ceiling fan, just put it on full and instant cool |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by Patrick_A on Aug 23rd, 2003, 12:18am I do the same, Sometimes i get in my car and turn on the A/C wide open and go for a drive. That is before the CH is full blown. I have layed down on my A/C vent at home, face first. I agree with getting as cold as possible, makes the blood go to other places, or so i think! Patrick |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by ksmiggy on Aug 23rd, 2003, 6:57pm Patrick_a, have you tried menthol too, try rubbing a little menthol(vick's vapour rub or equivalent) across your head around affected area, cools the area, watch for sweat running in eye.( although this stings like hell, does seem to speed process up)(really stings) |

Title: Re: cooling fan Post by ksmiggy on Aug 24th, 2003, 6:26am Charlie, shortening them prob the wrong term, i can hold off the pain sometimes(not the bad ones) by sitting in front of a fan, but you know it is stiill there, just makes it bearable, but move from the fan, and you can feel the temp change in about a second, whoosh, hot again, pain kicking in. |
