Title: Inderal - anyone tried this?
Post by red13 on Jul 27th, 2003, 6:44pm
I just today started Inderal, it's a blood prssure med.  I have been on Zomig for about 6 months now, and this is my first time taking preventatives. Anyone have any info on this drug & how it helps? could not find so much on the internet. TY :)

I took Inderal years ago.  It didn't help me but it might help you.  I don't remember the dose.  I currently take Depacote, 500mg/day when I'm in a cycle.  It eliminates my cycle.  Unfourtunitely it doesn't seam to work for most people.  As a 28 year suffer I can tell you, keep trying.  Keep changing doctors and medications until you find one that works.  It took me 22 years to get relief.

Red, Inderal is a beta blocker and has some success as prevetative for meegraines. However, it's record for CH is less than good.

The preventative #1 for CH are calcium channel blockers, like Verapamil.

It looks like your doc is not up to date on treating CH, or even worse, puts them in the same basket as meegraine.  ::)    You've got some education to do...   ;D

Have been on inderal(240LAmg)  a very long time, never really worked very well but kept my heartbeat low.I think I may have to keep taking a small dose as my heart does not like being off of it.I'm on depacote(1000mg) now and have suffered the worst bout ever.I quess I'll just keep eating fioricet as they seem to help the most.

Unfortunately that is one of the preventives that has not worked for me, but no preventive has worked for me in almost 30 years. Maybe it will help you but I tend to agree with Ueli. Look here (http://www.clusterheadaches.org/medications.htm) for a more comprehensive list of Cluster meds.

Good Luck,
Mark

The first neuro I saw for clusters about 20 years ago prescribed inderal. It didn't help the CH at all, but it sure made me feel terrible. I guess it has had some success with some migraines, but I have never heard of it helping anyone with CH.

Just a suggestion, find a physician who will give you meds that are known to help CH and who knows that CH and migraines are NOT the same, and get some oxygen ASAP.

Good luck,

Seems no matter how you describe your pain or how many times you tell the doc you have previously been diagnosed with CH...when you say HA they hear meegraines....

Maybe if you tell them you think you have meegraines they'll try to prevent CH?  It's prolly some evil ploy for job security....

I am taking it right now, and It works good for me. I have Maxalt for when I an one. I like it. But as everyone has said what works for one person may not work for someone else.
