Title: Chi Kung Therapy
Post by K-MAN on Jul 16th, 2003, 2:14pm
This may be a longshot, but has anyone ever used Chi kung exercises to reduce pain or eliminate a cluster headache?

Chi kung (also spelled Qigong) is an ancient meditative practice which originated in India and has been adopted by religious, martial and medical practicioners over the centuries.  Many people consider Tai Chi to be a very specific form of Chi kung practice.

There is literally a Chi kung exercise to enhance or cure anything.  I have been practicing Chi kung for five years for relaxation and healing and was originally introduced to it by my Chinese martial arts teacher.  Through my experience over the last several years I am thoroughly convinced of Chi kung's effectiveness for various ailments.  Strangely, some of the meditative Chi kung exercises we use to train for kung fu sparring tend to aggravate or trigger cluster attacks.  Keep in mind these are meditative techniques where your body is still and quiet with little or no motion at all.  Sound weird?  I guess it is in many respects.

Chi kung has been around for thousands of years but has only come to the West less than a hundred years ago.  There is probably a technique to use to help improve or eliminate cluster headaches, but so far I can't find an exercise to use.  This is really beyond the scope of my martial arts instruction although my teacher is looking into it for me.

I realize this may sound far-fetched to most people (especially western doctors), but to most Asian cultures it makes good sense.  My neurologist is originally from India and encourages me to continue with the Tai Chi, but she doesn't know of a specific technique to fight clusters.

Please let me know if you have any insight or know who I could contact to point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

K-MAN
