Title: Electronic Nerve Stimulation
Post by stoneystone on Jul 14th, 2003, 2:46pm
21 year episodic clusterboy here.  Burned out on the drug treatments.  Haven't had much success.  Common story I know.  I heard about a treatment sometime ago that implants a type of pacemaker device into you and runs some kind of device into the back of your neck that generates small electric pulses in a nerve.  Anyhow, the treatment was supposed to be quite affective.  Has anyone else heard of this?
If you have ever heard of Medtronics before, they are a firm that manufactures various medical devices such as pacemakers.  www.medtronics.com.  If you look under pain management or Neurology they discuss some of the possible treatments they have developed.  This is similiar to electronic nerve stimulation I'm talking about.  Any comments are apprciated.

Hello.

ANS is another that manufactures these devices. I have heard that ANS offers a few more treatment options over the Medtronic device. Twice as many leads for more pain coverage.

There are a few of us looking into this as a course of treatment, myself and one other (chronic) that I know of are very close to occipital implants. I'm scheduled for the trial procedure on the 30th of this month.

The initial studies look good, and as far as sugery goes, the risks are minimal. There is a pretty extensive qualification process for the implant, and it isn't something to take lightly. For those of us who haven't found a magic pill or cocktail, I think it offers hope.
