Recently while on vacation in Mexico, I asked my boss to pick me up some Imitrex injections. He brought back the nasal spray instead. I have never used the nasal spray before and the directions are in Spanish. Can someone please explain to me how to use it?? I have never used any kind of nasal spray before. Thanks a bunch!!

I've used it and thought it was great. I'm afraid of needles. So, as I recall, you grab it with your thumb on the bottom and two fingers on top and put it in your nose and give it one good press, while inhaling fully if you can handle it. exhale! and 10-15 minutes? I was better.

I would assume it is packaged the same way it is here in the US. So it will be just one shot up the nose. Don't know if there is an exact protocol for injesting it....I always just stuck it up my nose and pressed the little blue button. All it has to do is penetrate the soft tissue.

One word of warning....when it runs back in your throat......it is the nastiest tasting stuff you have ever seen.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've been up all night and the pills are not doing much except making me sick to my stomach. I'm off to give the spray a try. Thanks again!!

Blow your nose first

don't inhale too deeply or the stuff will run down your throat and it tastes like crap.

Inhale just enough to hold the liquid in your nasal passage.

Spray it in the nostril on the CH side.

Here is the "official" how to:
For sumatriptan nasal, gently blow your nose to clear any mucous. Insert the tip about 1 cm (one-half inch) into the nostril, pointing it straight up into the nasal canal. Block your other nostril and keep your head upright. Pump and sniff gently at the same time. Try not to sneeze or blow your nose just after using the spray. If your headache is relieved, but then returns, you can use a second dose 2 hours after the first dose. Do not use more than 2 doses in 24 hours.

Another thing... don't lay backward or it runs down your throat and burns. The other thing is if you have a soar throat DO NOT use it. It hurts really bad.

The nasal spray doesn't consistantly work for me, but it does about 2/3 of the time.
