Title: cronic chs and disability Post by Nathan on Jun 28th, 2003, 5:35pm hey everybody, i probably should have put this on the general post page but this is where i post most of the time and have a feeling of closness to all of you. if someone picks it up and sticks it on the general page, be my guest. i just wanted to let all the cronic sufferers that have chs so bad they are unemployed and cant find work and mat have applied for disability there IS hope. i just got the letter in the mail that i am approved for benifits and have been found "signifigantly disabled". now granted, this was a 3 year battle for me but in the end i won the war. there is hope for us yet! we may not find a magic pill or a cure of ANY kind, but at least we can have the comfort of knowing that we are still providing for our families and are NOT completely useless. i consider this a victory for ALL chs sufferes!! yeah, the gov is paying our (my) bills now but goddamn it, when we wake up at 2 am beating our head against the wall in pain at least we know our kids will have food on the table, clothes on their back and the pain we endure we deserve a little gratuitity. as i tell everyone i know, i earned every dime of this money every other day for the past 3 and a half years. no price can be put on the pain we go through!!! well i guess ive said my piece, if anyone wants to know anything more ill always be here lurking around (unless they find that magic pill then im posting it on here and youll never hear from ALOT of us again!! LOL!!) thanks for listening and heres to everybody staying pain free. ---N |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by forgetfulnot on Jun 28th, 2003, 6:07pm Great news man, how the hell did you do it? They turn me down like I'v got a fucking nosebleed. Best news I'v seen for chronic C-heads in a while. Now that you have been without a check for three fucking years you can adjust to less than half of what you were making before. Better than nuttin. |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by Nathan on Jun 28th, 2003, 10:12pm ok, i know what your talking about now. i didnt go back to the website, i have seen it all before. there are several links to ssa's website related to disability determination and how they decide one is "disabled". let me tell ya, its all pretty much black and white as far as ssa's version of disabled. there is however, a grey area and thats where i (and every other cronic i assume) fall. they look at the rulebook for disability, then look at what your condition is, how bad, can you still preform the type of work you used to, can you do any type of new work, and most importantly, how your condition effects your daily life. trust me, i have been dealing with this shit for 3 years, the ssa website and its rules and regs are not the holy grail of disability. (for gods sake i know a guy that collects disability just because hes dumb and this idiot went through 2 years of college!! LOL) the links you pointed out are a good refrence point for people applying, but should not be taken as the final word. if youre serious about trying for benifits, get a lawyer. especally one that deals in this field. they get to do all the bullshit work, you just have to sit around and be disabled (which your doing already!) ---N |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by BobG on Jun 28th, 2003, 11:00pm Marc..........LOL :D Yes I could but I like to make the newbie's work for their disability pay. Then tax them. (I'm a RINO) Republican-In-Name-Only Remember when Ronald Reagen, as Gov of Calif, tried to make the able-bodied work for their welfare checks? He got shot down real fast. |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by Nathan on Jun 29th, 2003, 11:06pm i think lee is confusing social security (retirement fund) with supplemental security income.(disability) theres also one called supplemental security disability income. they all get really confusing. to be honest, im not sure which one im on! i do know its not the retirement thing, im only 31 and havent paid into ssa anywhere near enough to get retirement. i guess i just gotta die young!! ---N8 |

Title: Re: chronic chs and disability Post by iJun G4 on Jul 1st, 2003, 5:47am Chronic folks interested in disability-- There is a post called "OUCH emergency med funding" now in "general topics" where Don (pres. of OUCH) is talking about uses of OUCH funds to help sufferers. http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1056940618 I put up a post supporting action to get Chronic CH universally recognized by the government as a disability condition. Don seems to be open to this idea. If you have ideas or suggestions regarding disability, please post them over there and let Don know! Jun (I'm an episodic and don't know anything about disability, but I think this is something that's really needed!) |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by Nathan on Jul 2nd, 2003, 5:07pm i may be wrong, but dont you have to be a member (paying member) of o.u.c.h. to submit anything? |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by Danielle on Jul 2nd, 2003, 6:24pm Congrats to you...I am also a chronic sufferer and wanted to let the other Canadians know that I too, was able to receive disability this year. I didn't stay on it fully, but you can also mix benefits so that you can work and have enhanced medical coverage which will pay for your scripts(that's what I am doing) cause you know the amount of meds is what's goin to break ya. |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by hdbngr on Jul 7th, 2003, 10:39am Nathan: That's wondeful news! We had a converstaion awhile back on how to work/interview with CH and the difficulties that caused. I'm so happy that this went through and that it will reduce worry about that area. Way to go for sticking with it. Vanasa |

Title: Re: cronic chs and disability Post by Nathan on Jul 7th, 2003, 10:09pm thanks! i would say it was worth it, but in some ways its not. disability is really a last resort for us unfortunatly, there are alot of us at that point so in that aspect, it was worth it to stick it out and not give up. i advise anyone currently trying for disability with clusters... dont give up, sooner or later your going to find someone in the systen that understands the pain we go through and will finally stamp that huge file of yours "approved"!! |
