Title: Med question?
Post by Tucker31 on Jun 18th, 2003, 3:59pm
Hey all I am new to all this so bare with me please. I have not been to the Nuero. yet waiting for 7/2 to roll around! My reg. doc. is slow on the uptake. Anyway I had this headache problem all last summer, did the er bit  whole nine yards. Have had all the blood work done, the eye exam all normal. have daily attacks live at kip's level 2 get daily to 5+. Have been taking Utralcet with just a sign of some relief to get by. Today picked up samples of Frova (frovatritan succinate) and took one at 2:45p.m. waiting for 4:45 to roll around so I can take the second pill. My head is killing me! Tommarow i am to try relpax(eletriptan HBr) then let the doc know which works best if at all. I did look under meds for these two meds. Didn't see them. Can anyone tell me where I might find more info or if they have had a success with these? Thanks, I'm trying to hang in there but I really don't know how people live like this! It's nuts. ??? P.S. asked for imitrex shot  and they basically said this should work better?

It doesn't answer your question, but ALL my PF vibes are coming your way...sorry this is so hard for you.

The answer to this question:

Once you get diagnosed and the proper treatment that works for you, you will get a handle on life again. You can live with this. Just HANG IN THERE!

frova is one of those medicines that should keep your headache away for several hours.  Meaning more than two.  However, it did not work for me and only keept the beast at bay for 2 hours and then was back for me.  I found it as effective as imitrix.  But with imitrix you can take it in nasal spray or shot form and that acts alot faster 6 min. vs 30 to 60 min. with pill form.  So there are some valid arguments for your dr to take imitrix over frova.  Amerge is another pill that is suppose to keep the beast at bay for several hours.  You may want to try that one also.  Good luck!

Tucker31 frova should work on you low kips one pill should last about 10 hrs.I took them there are ok for the low kips.also took relpax same thing as the frova.
Now imitrex injection are the best on a 7-10 kip for me.In about 10 mins CH is gone.If you ever get the injection you have to do the imitrex tip on the left side of the board or get the vials and load the needles yourself 2-3 3mgs because the insurance companys are not going to give you a lot.You should try oxygen a lot of people use it .Go to this link for oxygen

Thanks to all who answered it helps. I found out today that the Frova was like  taking nothing for me. In one hour of taking the first dose I was watching the clock waiting for hour # 2 to come so I could take the second pill. After the second pill it was five p.m. and of course the doc. was unreachable for questions and I did the next best thing called the pharmacy. She recommended imitrex go figure, shot no less. Said docs. didn't give it to me because they don't sample it any longer. She said Ultracet and aleve every four hours until the headache subsides and call the doc in the morning! She also said if it was a true cluster the frova won't work. She said the imitrex might, but the Frova claims to have less rebound headaches then imitrex. She said nothing compares to imitrex! I must say right now I am usually fighting the headache and actually don't feel too bad. Maybe I'll get a handle on this thing yet! Amerge was metioned although they say it works well for women who have this problem around their female cycle. Not an issue for me, estrogen dependant. Estrogen might not be helping the matter but it's been this way 7 years, so why now if it is a factor? Also Amerge takes long to work, but lasts longer is my understanding? Last question my daughter suffers allergies, seasonal  I noticed this all started at a time when her allergies were bad. I am within one week of the same time last year when i had this problem can my trigger be a seasonal allergy problem. I can't say I suffer much. Of course I have the headache side congestion , although worse before full blown attack sets in. Plus I have had the ear drainage one side worse then the other. I actually thought maybe this was a infection. Docs. checked both looked and blood all normal!well here's hoping that tonight I can sleep PF! Maybe I'll catch some of those vibes, thanks! :)

Update.... had sleep last night . Actually had a hard time waking up today. Took Relpax samples today, might have made a difference!!!! Had lots of meds. today Relpax, ultracet, and aleve, but you know I actually also had a nap this afternoon. I feel like maybe I might be getting on the upside of things. I will pick up more relpax sample in the a.m. hoping to get completely pain free and stay pain free until my Neuro visit on 7/2. Thanks for all the support. I will keep you all posted.  ;)

My experience with triptans is that the only triptan working quick enough for us is the trex-shots.
Tabs and spray(aerosols) start working almost 30 min after you take it.
See no reason to suffer that long when you can be painfree within 7-9 minutes.
Have you tried O2 btw?

Hi, haven't tried O2. My normal doc. is so unsure of all this stuff. He is just getting me by until 7/2 neuro visit. I am trying to see his side, it's hard but also want to make sure I know what I am dealing with before we go too far. Seem to be gtting the upper hand on headaches. Slept last nihgt!!! Woke up PF staye dthat way for 30mins. Setting in but not bad. Usually have started my morning attack by now, it's there but just a 1 or 2 on kip scale. Tha's much improvement. Willtry Relpax again today. I wish my doc. had spray or shots. My pharmacy hasn't even dispensed relpax yet. They said it's too new!! WHo knows, I just tryt o get by each day and pray God will show me something through this mess. Who knows maybe I'll grow in my faith!!  ;)
