Title: Re: neurontin Post by Marc on Jun 20th, 2003, 9:37am Nathan, About 5 years ago my previous Nero had me taking high doses like you are - over 3,000 mg at times. She told me that the max was around 4,800 mg per day. I didn't suffer any memory loss or other side effects. I was also taking Verapamil at the same time - I was sure that I had found a good combination of drugs. When I quit taking Neurontin, I saw no change in my CH's. It would appear that it didn't do anything to help me. Good luck, Marc |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by gtar_man on Jun 20th, 2003, 12:12pm Yo, Nathan, I've considered that .357 magnum therapy quite a few times over the last 2 years. But I became a grandfather last week, and I'd have missed it. Always thought I was a lover, not a fighter, and clusterhead has reduced me to a quivering bowl of jello more times than I care to count. But I'm still here, beast, you m*th*rf**k*r, and you can kiss my ass. Hang tough, buddy, we're with you. Mike |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by notseinfeld on Jun 20th, 2003, 9:12pm I agree with guitar grand-dad. Continued vigilance in the face of adversity summons the universal spiritual law whose reward will come back to you two-fold. Though I'm not a spiritual guy, I could use some help from these invisible forces. Have you tried Verapamil? I took my system about 15 days to assimilate its adverse effects and smooth out. It's the number one defense, next to being 6 feet under I'm told! |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by Laurie on Jun 21st, 2003, 2:09am Hi, Nathan, Some drugs are self-limiting: in order to get into the bloodstream, they depend on molecules in your body that transport them out of the gut or on other molecules that convert the drug to an active state. My understanding is that neurontin is one of these drugs. Thus, at some point, as you increase your intake dosage, your blood level dosage stops rising. It is difficult to OD on neurontin, which is one reason MDs like to prescribe it. My doctor recommended that I try taking neurontin in two half doses a couple hours apart rather than 1 single dose to increase my blood levels. I usually start at 300-600mg at bedtime and increase slowly as needed. My max was 1100 mg. On the other hand, if you are having problematic side effects (like repeatedly not remembering whether you dosed a few hours earlier) or scary side effects like abdominal or chest pain, trouble breathing, or unusual stiffness, you should consult your doctor. Have you tried setting up a weekly pill box with 7 slots (big ones exist) or, if you have too many meds, 7 small cups? Laurie |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by kjn on Jun 21st, 2003, 7:36pm I was on 100 mg x 3 daily for 6 weeks and will never do it again. The worst feeling I ever had!!! I even told my doctor I would never take another Neurontin. Getting up from a chair for instance was like a "frame-by-frame" replay. I had the worst mood swings and depression. Next was a visit to a neurologist who prescribed Depakote, which was just "as bad" for me. I used to take Percodan and wanted to get away from it but so far it was the only medication which would let me function for a while without the throbbing headaches. NEURONTIN? never again !!!!!!!!! Hope you find something which will work for you. Best of luck. kjn |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by kim on Jun 22nd, 2003, 12:42pm Last cycle I took 900 mg Neurontin per day for about 6 weeks. I think it might have shortened the cycle thus performing it's preventative duty.....(it's hard to be sure when you are episodic....) Memory loss........yep. I was like a walking human filled with blank air - lol. I kept forgetting if I took my pill (and a few times probably took anudda one...lol) whatyagonnado.... ::) :D I wonder if I'm the only other neurontin taker that had a tendency to not drive so good while taking neurontin....I laugh about it now, but at the time it was upsetting....just could not tink strate on the stuff!!!! The thing is - Out of all the meds I have taken for clusters over the past 25+ years this was one that I felt had some impact as a preventative. |

Title: Re: neurontin Post by fugly on Jun 30th, 2003, 8:50pm Hi, I am on 60 mg of Pred and my nero alsp put me on Nerontrin. He was on the FDA study for Nerontrin. He told me that they tested it at something like 3500 mg. But says that they limited it to 1800mg a day in the med books. He also said that there was no side effects except being tired. His exact words were whatever the brain doesn't use you pee right out. I am not sure if it is helping me but the pred is. The only problem is I am gaining weight badly. I hope this helps. |
