Title: How long does Imigran provide relief for?
Post by jmorgan52 on Apr 29th, 2003, 8:47am
Whenever I use the Imigran/Imitrex injection during CH episodes I usually get 12-24 hours relief before the next big one comes along.

It seems that many of you guys don't experience the same relief and get hit again only hours later.

Do any others experience the same results as me?

If I had to take many injections every day I might doubt that the benefit was worth the extreme cost and difficulty in obtaining the meds.

What sort of relief period between CH do you get from the inj?

John

If you are getting that long of a relief period with the trex that is great news.  But, I am hesitant to believe it's the imitrex that is giving you that long of a period of relief.  The imitrex does not stay in your body that long.  Are you sure this isn't just the pattern of your clusters?

I know I have taken upwards of 8 shots during the night; the trex will work really well, then a half hour or an hour later, I will get hit again.

Hope you keep getting that long between hits....that's great.  :)

I am currently PF for over a year now, but am really interested in keeping up to date with the problem.

Before imigran inj I used to get hit many times a day lasting for several hours, then it would vanish as quickly as it came and then start up again maybe an hour or so later. This pattern persisted for weeks/months until the cycle ended.

Since Imigran inj for the past 7 or 8 years I have found that if I "tough it out" without the inj the pain returns a few hours later as in the past, but if I take the inj I get relief for 12-24 hours.

I tried the reduced dose injection with a modified 2nd self injector and get similar results. I tried the qtip method once but it hurt like hell and it bled and was too difficult to do alone for me. The reduced length firing pin worked ok for me.

I was on Lithium for 3 CH cycles for months at a time on various doses around 1994-97 I think, before I discovered Imigran. It did absolutely zip for my CH and made me feel like a zombie most of the time. As with prednisone, I won't be going that route again!

Imigran was the only way to get through the cycles when the pain was unbearable, and getting hit twice a day is bad enough. Sorry for those not getting longer relief from it.

My attacks last 1 1/2 hours.  I find every two hours I get attacked and need more imitrix.
