Title: I am new here!!
Post by Shadow on Mar 26th, 2003, 9:38am
I have been told that my head pain I get is a Cluster Headaches. I have been reading threw the board and Mine are different some what. I do not get them at night I get them in the day. I guess that is the only thing that is different right now. I sleep good at night. But I get some during the day that just about drop me to my knees.
Does any one else get them in the day and not at night?

This is a good site and I am learning alot by reading it, I am glad I found it.

Thank you
Shadow

Welcome Shadow.  I used to get 8 ha every day during my waking hours and sleep fine as well.  Now I am on medication that prevents my ha.  It is not the norm to get them durring the day but it does happen.  You are not alone.

Shadow -

Welcome. there is a lot to learn here.

Try the cluster quiz button on the left, for a little exercise in self diagnosis.

Most clusterheads are more likely to have attacks at night, particularly a short time after going to sleep, when your brain goes into REM sleep mode. But time of day is not a criteria for disgnosing clusters.

There are two key characteristics for telling clusters from other types of headaces.

One is length of attack. An attack that lasts less than five minutes (without treatment) is probably not a cluster attack - most likely it is CPH chronic paroxymal hemicrania.  An attack that lasts more than three hours is probably not clusters -- more likely it is migraine.

And a cluster attack hits only one side of your head at any given time. If both sides of your head hurt, it almost certainly is not cluster headache.

Stick around and ask more questions -- there is plenty of help here.

Welcome Shadow,
I have clusters and mine are almost always during the day ... between 11am and 3pm. Generally 2 ihr attacks per day during clustertime.
I have occasional CH's at night .... but never during sleep.

Well thanks to everyone that posted. I have taken the self test and it did say that yes I fit in to the cluster head group.

I have pain on one side of my head that fells like a lightning bolt hitting my brain. Each lightning bolts last for 30 to 50 secs and stops. Normal they will go on and off for about 4 hours and than I get a break. Where I will not have them for hours or days. When I get them they just hit I never know when I am going to get them.
I have not had them at night And am happy about that after reading about getting them at night. I can get a good night sleep(thank god).  I get them mostly during the day, people at work don't know what to think.

It is good to have found this site it is helping me out, I now know what CH's are.

Welcome Shadow,  when I first began having CH l9 years ago they mostly occurred during the day, but as time passed they began to happen more at night, even though I have them during the day also.  Just hope that you do not become chronic, which is what happened to me five years ago.

hey shadow and welcome :)

50 seconds at a time huh...have you looked into chronic paraxymal hemicrania??? it's a subset of clusters and is easily treated.  It acts somewhat like what you are describing....just a thought, but I don't want to give you false hope for a cure as I don't know the rest of your symptoms....

if it is cph, it can be easily helped with a drug called indomethacin.  take a browse for it :)

Hi ya Shadow, and welcome to our little humble abode.

First, have you seen a Neurologist yet?

What kind of meds did the doc that diagnosed you put you on?  Just wondering.  Sometimes its hard to get a correct diagnoses, for some of us, it took years to find out what the problem was.

Get a good Neuro that has experience with CH, beleive it or not some don't all that much, and hopefully you'll get some relief with some good meds that hopefully work for you.

Wishing you the best of luck

Mikey,  ;D

Hi Shadow and welcome.  Just wanted to ditto a few things for you.  During my first two cycles I got hit at roughly 7:30 p.m. each night.  Each hit could last anywhere from 30 minutes (the good ones) to 3 hours.  This one hit per day last roughly 3-4 months.  Always got a good night sleep.  Did have shadows during the day though.

Third cycle - only during the night and it woke me up at least 2x during the night.  Fourth  cycle - day and night.

Go figure.

Good luck - Linda T

A few of you have asked what meds, I am taking will I remember to bring in the bottle an I am taking Naproxen Sod 550mg. They do not fell like they are doing anything. I am plaing on going back to the doctor in a few weeks I am getting as much info as I can On CHP, After doing some read and looking it up (thanks to some great people on this site) I think that is more in line with what I have.  They have not gone away but not have been as painfully eather. I hope the doctor will help me more this time around. I am going to ask him for an MRI this time around.

Thanks again.
Chad

Hey Chad,
IMHO, I have to agree with amber and your statement that you may be suffering from CHP rather than clusters.
