Title: Anybody tried Frova?
Post by Heather_K on Mar 21st, 2003, 10:49pm
My neuro just put me on it...it's the new Imitrex, with a significantly longer half-life (18 hours).  I have been taking one pill at bedtime IF I feel that ghostly outline of pain, and ---knock on wood---I haven't been wrenched from my sleep by a visit from the Beast since I've been on it.  I have, however, gotten a few nasty clusters in the day, but these are more manageable because I can get to them with meds earlier.

Interested to hear your reply...I haven't seen this drug mentioned.  I think the full name of it is Frovatriptan succinate.

Frova has been discussed before on the board but thats ok tho we can discuss it again.  I tried Frova and it aborted my ha for 2 hours and then I got hit again with another ha.  Over and over it only worked for 2 hours for me and was no more effective than imitrix and I couldn't take as much of it because it was suppose to be effective for 18 hours.  So I switched back to Imitrix where I knew I could take the meds to cover all 8 of my ha every day.  If it works for you that is great.  I am happy to hear it is working great for someone.

Ditto to Karla's comments.

For me it is too slow to be a decent abortive and it doesn't seem to last as long as Imitrex, Amerge or Axert.
