Please don't shout at me if this is a thick question.
I am a seasonal episodic and get an attack as soon as autumn starts.
I know my hypothalamus is all wonky, and I know no-one knows why.
Here is the silly question. If I have a perhaps oversensitive hypothalamus, could I be reacting badly to the drop in light levels in autumn?

If so, could light box therapy work as a preventative?

Have any other seasonal episodics from the less sunny countries/states tried it?

I get my attacks in autumn as well. If you try that light box thingy, let me know how it goes. What the hell, I'd give it a try.

Back in '96 when I first got on the internet one of the first things I looked for was info on CH's (and there wasn't much available) and I remember reading a page from a guy named Paul Borneo. He used 6 daylight spectrum flourescent tubes for light therapy to extend his exposure to light during the change of seasons and claims to have had some success with it.
His website is listed on the headache links here but I don't think the site is up anymore.
Anyone know anything about Paul Borneo?

Try a search on the old message board, Wendy.

This MB is only 13 months old, the old MB has over three years worth of posts. I remember "Light therapy" being discussed more than few times on the old MB.

follow Jonny's advise. The old archives are a wealth of info on every aspect of CH. Many very scientific folks who no longer post here imparted great wisdom on every aspect of CH.... I miss them....butt their knowledge remains in the tomes there for anyone who is wise enough to search.

"full spectrum lighting" is what you are referring to. Comparing the spectrum data for each "full spectrum" or "daylight" bulb that is currently manufactured will tell you which is best. A company called Duro Test used to manufacture a bulb that was the best. I no longer follow the data so I'm not sure what's available.

When my CH began I worked in a facility that used these bulbs exclusively. So when I wasn't working outside I was in "full spectrum" light. The CH came anyway. Obviously I didn't feel myself a candidate for this experimental therapy.

I'd search under "seasonal" also. A fellow named Gary G did a lot of research there. I feel it is one of those topics that is relevant to CH butt as with much CH research puzzles....not all the pieces seem to fit....On a round planet that spins...location is extremely individual when it comes to "seasonal"...that makes for a shitload of variables....and the Clusterbeast loves varibles.

Hello Folks, Thanks for the pointers. Can I ask for help again.
I did do a search before asking the question and I think I may be doing it wrong as it doesn't come up with much at all.
I used the search icon and asked it to go back several years. Is the old message board somewhere else on the site.

that's how I feel, especially as I would love not to take drugs and especially as I had an attack end as soon as I went on holiday abroad to the sun (probably coincidence) and especially as a couple of UK CH people have had some prevention success with light boxes combined with melatonin. BUT although 'SAD' syndrome in the UK has resulted in light boxes being pretty easily available, they cost quite a lot and I didn't want to buy one and spend the hours it takes apparently to work for SAD sufferers, only to find out later that CH sufferers know already that it doesn't work.
