Title: New but Thankful ! Post by CHERRILL on Oct 30th, 2002, 6:41am Hi Everyone, On 10/2 I woke up 3x in the middle of the night in the worst pain ever. This continued on for a couple of nights always the same. Severe pain on the left side of my head affecting my teeth, jaw, and ear. After a few days of this I went to the doctor. She told me it was TMJ and gave me a muscle relaxer. I asked her if it could be CH and she said no that CH is always during the day and brought on by stress. After 2 days of taking the muscle relaxer and still no releif I decided to look up ha's on the net. That's when I came across this web-site and I knew what I had. This web-site has been a life saver to me. After reading alot of info I called the doc back and told her to give me imitrex. That worked great to get me through the nights. Finally, I was put on a 10 day dose of prednisone. During my time taking the pred. I only suffered with 2 ha during those 10 days. I finished the pred. on 10/27 and have had 2 ha's since then. I'm still waiting and wondering what's going to happen now. I assume this is my second bout with CH. The last time was three years ago when I was rear ended in a car accident. I started having ha's two days later. Only one a night for about 1 1/2 months but the same thing. Same side of the head, same pain, lasting the same amount of time. Since this is all kind of new I don't know how long this will last or when it will return. All I do know is that I have learned alot and that I will continue to get my refills on imitrex wether I have the ha's or not. I would just like to say this site is the best. It has provided me with so much info. and support that I'm not alone. Without all of you I would have suffered alot more. |

Title: Re: New but Thankful ! Post by ChristineL on Oct 30th, 2002, 7:01am Cherrill, Welcome..........sorry you have to be here but there is a ton of great info and good people to help. My CH's came back in July after a 12 year remission. I also started on Pred which lessened the severity and occurances but did not end the cycle. I have switched to Verapamil which so far (knock on wood) is working. I did have a shadow the other night but haven't had a full blown CH since the beginning of Sept. I also use O2 which works great when a CH starts and Imitrex injections for the real bad ones. You may want to consider switching Dr's and find someone who understands CH's or at least is willing to learn. My GP didn't know squat about them but I printed out everything I could find off of this site and took it all to her in a file. She has been wonderful about reading the material and giving me what I need. Hope you are PF soon. Chris L |

With the info and input from other chers I was able to arm myself with what I needed to be sure I was treated properly for once. It was a great feeling and I owe it all to DJ for this site and the others here who were supportive. Good luck to you and PFDAN. |
