Title: imitrex
Post by morich on Oct 28th, 2002, 5:55pm
does anyone know if it is possible to make an injectible imitrex solution from pills. i have had clusters for 9 years. the injections work very well. takes approx 4 minutes to eradicate boomer with injection and 35 minutes with 50 mg pill. i hace access to as many pills as i want but very few injections. pill info says they are soluble in water and saline. could make 8 injections from 1 pill. can it be done? thanx, morich

Sounds a bit "scary" to me since the tabletts have a lot of "binding" material and such in them that you might not want to inject - but I can see your point.

By the way, I don't know where you are from, but I would like to know how much the Imitrex will cost you if you were to buy them without insurance coverage; both the pills and the injections...

I have a funny feeling that we might find the prices different in different States. In CA a 2-dose injection kit runs $91.00, I don't know about the pills though - have to find that out...

I once had a nurse tell me to take the pill.  Disolve it in hot water and drink it, as opposed to waiting for the body to break it down which is what takes so long.  It takes effect much quicker that way. Tastes terrible, but so what.   Linda

marty- i"m in nj. injections are about the same price. my hmo will cover a large amount of pill so price is not a concern there. when your running about 4 boomers a night during cluster period, you can never have enough shots.
i have heard the concern about binders before, but the stuff all ends up in the same spot anyway and you don't inject into bloodstream. i think i'd be more than willing to try making extra injections. you all know when it hits you'll do anything to make it stop. and i mean anything.

Hey, Morich...

I think that you should follow Linda's advice...

You said: "you can never have enough shots"...  To many Imitrex injections - Not good for you :-[

Be careful Morich. WE all hurt and have our own special ways of dealing with the pain. Listen to the people here. They are smart and they have been trying a lot of different things :) and can give you good advice.

I sure understand the phrase  "you can never have enough shots", but too much Trex can kill ya so be careful. My Neuro limits my injection intake to 12mg every 24 hours but with careful planning, ie see tips on the left, I am not limited to just two 6mg shots.
I like the idea of the water glass technique, taste be dammed!
Zomig is also avaliable in a quick dissolving tablet that dosent need water.

geez folks; i am not asking permission to take imitrex injections. i am only asking if i can make injections from the pills. telling me how many i can take is something i would expect from a migraine website, not from clusterheads.i don't want mommys, i want a chemist or pharmacist input. i'll make my own decisions on how to use the info.

oh please be careful with advice, folks...

morich, is it possible for you to call a pharmacist?  or, if you can't do that and can't get the injections, I do know that Glaxxo-Wellcome has a charitable meds program and, if you hold your mouth right, you may be able to get some injections for free.

please don't do anything drastic like snorting ground up pills without checking with a professional first, though, ok?

Hey Morich,

bite me!  This isn't a chemist/pharmacist message board.  It's a clusterhead board.  They share what they have.  If it's not what you're looking for then just leave.  No need to give them shit for offering their thoughts.

Signed,

Big Mama

Morich... If you're looking for someone to give you the okay to try this, I don't think you'll find it here.  #1... I don't think you'll find anyone here that has tried this.  #2... I don't think you'll find anyone with the proper credentials and/or experience to be able to give an expert opinion on what would happen.  #3... You're basically taking your life into your own hands, because of the increased risk of infection or toxicity from making your own injections.  If you decide to do it, you'll be on your own.

No, but it will leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Morich,  you shouldn't  try what I said without talking to someone who has done it. Also I just thought  of something. The dyes and fillers used in the pills could kill you if injected.

To answer your question.....no, unless you want to risk
an abscess in your tissue at each injection site, and possible vascular damage to your arterioles from particulate matter (or binder) which you lack the expertise to be able to remove. This is very third world stuff you are considering. Look before you leap.

Don't believe  that in the 4-plus years I've been here that I've ever come across a person who.......after asking a question...........was so friggin rude to us who offered to answer.. said question.   (shaking head and sighing here)     Linda

I know a person who's retired early because of her migraines. Her doc told her to use "as many shots of Imigran as needed". She takes up to 6 a day. I told her that I've heard it could be dangerous, but the doc thinks it's safe. I wonder if the doc needs to be educated. ???

Doc Robinson, at the vancouver Convention, said he has had patients use as many as 8 shots per day with no ill effects.

golly folks, i ask a question that has a yes or no answer and i get a bunch of responses that mirror the same complaints that the message boards are rife with about insurance companies and md's. listen to yourselves. you "shouldn't", you "can't", you'll "kill yourself", You're "on your own". if you don't know the answer to the question, just say you don't know. only 2 responses were close to being on point. someone said that injecting binders would be deadly. is that a fact or opinion. someone said i don't have the skills to leach the binders and dyes. well at least that gives me a start, someplace for more investigation. as for all you folks who said that too many injections would kill me, have you read the data. well i have and that opinion sounds like more hmo bs. i have found no empirical data that says taking more than 12 mg's of injectible imitrex in a 24 hour timespan has caused more deadly side effects than taking more than 200 mg's of aspirin in 4 hours. i can't begin to to say how disappointed i am in your responses. i thought this site was to provide a forum that didn't mimic the webmd's of the world.
i'm sorry if you thought i was rude, but your mission statement didn't say you were an arm of the ama.
i guess i'll take big mama's advice and leave you folks.
thanx for the fun, morich

morich, I didn't think you were rude, I know you are one of the rudest baschtards ever to hit this board.

You like simple answers, here it goes:

Take a hike and find a message board where they crawl into your sorry ass.

I'm always flattered when people take my suggestions.

Morich - you may want to try hub's treatment.  He takes a banana, smears it with peanut butter, places 2 100mg imitrex pills on the end of it, and puts it where the sun don't shine.

Here is the answer you're looking for - YES, you can disolve as many Imitrex pills as you want and mainline them.  Of course, I'm not a doctor nor a  pharmacist nor a chemist.  I just know you can do it - at least once!

So very sorry about warning you of the possible problems your near idiotic idea could create.  If you'd have read any of the posts on this board, you would have seen that we not only answer questions, but we also try to help prevent ppl from doing things that could potentially harm, or possibly even kill them.  Perhaps it is best that you find a totally heartless board, that will give you the thumbs up to try your idea, rather than justify why they are answering your question "No" like we did.

PFDAN.......................... Drk^Angel
