Title: This works for me Post by rfout on Oct 7th, 2002, 5:16pm Found out Sunday what to call what I have experienced for the last 12 years, ClusterHeadaches. For several years I had kip 9's, (never suicidal) then learned if I didn't touch my head or neck they rarely went past kip 7. Instead I move my head to the opposite side (in my case to the right) and stretch a muscle in the front and back of my neck as hard as I can, twisting my head as if nodding NO! and moving my shoulders to stretch what feels like cramped muscles Unaware of WHY ME, I went to an eye doctor and complained about the headaches and got new glasses and she told me that if I could find were the pain was the most severe and pressed on it would go away. The cycle abruptly ended and I never tried the pressure suggestion. Six months later another cycle started, I tried apprehensively to find the most severe pain and (in my opinion) caused several 9's Until I found a place to the right of my left eye (between my eye and nose). By applying pressure to this area and (discovered that also squeezing my brow, I rarely go past kip 5 and never last as long. I've been using this technique for 5 years and it works for me. When one starts while I'm asleep most of the time I can lie on the opposite side, remove the pillow so I can lower my head sideways and stretch and press near my eye. |

Title: Re: This works for me Post by Charlie on Oct 7th, 2002, 8:46pm Glad something is working for you. I think we'd all stand on our heads and paint ourselves blue if it would help. I used to hold my head in odd positions. It felt good to me. The pressure thing wasn't effective for me though. Stick around and read all you can. Good luck and welcome aboard. Charlie |

Title: Re: This works for me Post by dannyboy on Oct 8th, 2002, 11:28am You're applying pressure to the terminal branch of the Facial Artery, also called the Angular Artery sometimes. Most likely you're blocking the blood flow through the artery unless you're pressing very gently. Danny |

Title: Re: This works for me Post by jmorgan52 on Oct 8th, 2002, 1:23pm I instinctively try and press on various parts of the head etc to relieve the pain during ch but only find it is a sort of distraction, not really pain relief and only provides minimum relief if any at all. Gives you something to do while the pain is intense. I try and make the pressure hurt to take mind off the real pain but it never really works for me |

Title: Re: This works for me Post by rfout on Oct 8th, 2002, 8:49pm I find if I touch any part of my head or neck it makes it last longer and more intense. |
