Hi All,
I am new to board....suffered CH since birth of child 16 years ago.......I am 38 years old and have had profound relief from Cafergot Suppository...I WENT TO HAVE MY SCRIPT REFILLED & WAS TOLD THE MANUFACTURER STOPPED PRODUCTION????? Had to return home w a bottle of Excedrin...needless to say, I was up thrashing, fighting devils all night long....I wanted to die. After six Excedrin, 4 Sudafed sinus & two bottles of coca cola, I thought my head was exploding.....Oh God, it hurt SOOOO much.....what is the deal w the Cafergot?????? Does anyone know????? My pharmasist told me I was the ONLY person they stocked it for in a town of 50,000 !!!!! My MD back from vacationn today & perscribed Imitrex Nasal Spray? Any thoughts? Hello Suzy,

I don't know about the cafegot, but there are other meds that work.

Check the link, print it off and take it with you to your doc.

Forgot to say, cafergot is ergotamine tartrate, been in use over 50 years and still is.

Get your doc and chemist to re check.

Thank You Steve! It is amazing how these CH's and living in fear of them can become soooo consuming....someone else has spoken of feverfew? Anyway, I am beginning to wonder if my years of relying on th Cafergot, have led me to a place of "rebound headaches"....Also, I have had moments of such intense pain, that it settles into my back teeth??????!!!! I am a regular dental patient, so it is not a lack of oral hygeine on my part. Has ANYTHING @ all purchased over the counter worked for you? Thank again for the input....

Seriously, I have not found anything, over the counter, that makes a dent in these headaches.....I tried feverfew, Excedrine Migraine, Tylenol PM, Alleve,.. you name it..

Cafergot is still viable! Don't give up on it! :D

I also NEED HELP! I have had very severe "atypical" cluster headaches for 20 years. I tried EVERYTHING imaginable with absolutely NO success. My work suffered; I had no life. About 13 years ago, I started on daily Cafergot therapy .... 1/2 a suppository 2X a day. I have been basically headache free for these full 13 years ... all my symptoms disappeared!!! I have had ABSOLUTELY NO side effects at all from the Cafergot. IT HAS SAVED MY LIFE! But now I cannot get my prescription refilled. Novartis Pharmaceuticals PROMISED that they will have Cafergot available by September 23rd. I called today, and they now said it is delayed AGAIN until the end of October. I am in a state of panic. This simple, safe therapy has been such a blessing. I cannot imagine returning to the hell of suffering headaches ... or experimenting with possible alternative drugs. HELP!!

Have you clusterheads tried cafergot (ergotamine) tablets. Not as readily absorbed at the suppositories, but frankly, much easier to use.

In Canada, cafergot is available with 1 or 2 mg ergotamine, try crushing the tablet with your teeth and place the powder under your tongue. Works for many of use.

I did get cafergot pills..and had a horrific episode w CH the other night........I used the Imitex inhaler for that one...these inhalers are expensive & I was given only six...needless to say, the relief was short lived......I am going to try crushing the pill, next time........I will probably dissolve it in coca cola or coffee......have yopu ever done this?

Cafergot kept me PF with out 1 CH for 6 years and no side effacts, BUT it was pulled from the market last year because it did not make enough money and Ercaf was pulled as well.
If by some chance you know where this wonder pill can be picked up Then please let me know.
I took 1 pill a day starting 2 weeks before my season thur 2 weeks after my season and only paid $70.00 per hundred pills.
