Title: Clusters in NC Post by tarheelpm on Sep 10th, 2002, 2:07pm My brother has been diagnosed with cluster headaches in North carolina, he has suffered with these headaches for over 5 years and now he is in the middle of a three month headache that has sent him to the ER twice and is disrupting his life. He has tried many things , oxygen, imitrex, lortab, to no avail. Had all the tests to rule out everything else. The doctor put him recently on prednizone and he is still having the headache. He only gets relief when they give him major doses of pain meds that knock him out for the most. The headache returns and usually wakes him from his sleep. Yesterday he woke at 2 with the worst ever...went to ER and was given pain meds and sent home , his doctors was called and several follow-up calls were made by his wife. The doctor never bothered to return the call....ALL DAY...We are frustrated that no one appreciates how awful these cluster headaches can be. We would like to get a referral to a Doctor in NC that specializes in headaches. Any information would be appreciated. He lives near Charlotte. Thanks |

Title: Re: Clusters in NC Post by domm on Sep 10th, 2002, 5:10pm Tarheel - sorry you ended up here and I know that your brother can find help. Click on the medical info button on the upper left of the sceen. There is some outstanding info there detailing many different methods of treatment. Then click on the OUCH wesite button. This will take you to clusterheadaches.org. One of the first buttons has a pull down and on it is a list of recommended doctors. There is one in Sanford, NC - not sure if that is close or not. but you may find something in South Carolina. Also check out the support board. Lots of other people find themselves in your position. Good luck domm |

Title: Re: Clusters in NC Post by Bob_Johnson on Sep 13th, 2002, 12:08pm There are specialists in headache in Hickory and Greensboro; surely, Charlotte has someone. Consider Baptist Hosital in Winston-Salem and Duke Medical Center. You can call a hospital in any city of interest and they will generally have a referral service for their staff docs. You might try one of the Yellow Page web sites and search under "neurology". Don't think this would be as effective as calling the hospitals, however. |
