Title: Imitrex question Post by Mako on Sep 7th, 2002, 11:08pm Has anyone ever tried taking an Imitrex tablet (50mg) and desolving it in sterile solution for injecting? I only have 2 doses left and unless I can find a way to convince the ins. co. to let me get more per month I won't be able to get any more until 9\13 (not an exceptable option) my fiancee has a couple of 50 mg. tablets let's see 50mg devide by 6mg (per dose)=8.33 doses X .5ml solution per dose=4.16ml. That would go a lot further than one tablet, any ideas or experiances? Mako |

Title: Re: Imitrex question Post by Melissa on Sep 8th, 2002, 10:21am I would think that taking any drug that is supposed to be for oral use only, and using it for injection, would be very dangerous! Are you able to split the tablet? Otherwise, I would say try and hold out until the 13th to obtain more meds, then have your doctor write to your insurance company, and have him/her explain why you need more than the standard amount of meds. There was a thread not to long ago, that discussed this very thing. (about not getting enough meds) Good Luck! :)Mel |

Title: Re: Imitrex question Post by Drk^Angel on Sep 8th, 2002, 8:37pm I would not recommend that. The tablets contain other ingredients that the injections do not. These other ingrediants may not react well when injected. Also, there is still a risk of contamination dissolving the tablet into water, and injecting it. There are many factors that you are not taking into account, and you may end up doin' alot more harm than good. Also, unless you plan on making this recipe up during an attack (which would seem almost impossible) there's a possiblity of further condamination between the time you make the injections, and the time you inject yourself. It definately does not sound like a good idea to me. PFDAN.......................... Drk^Angel |
