Post by peperlake on Aug 19th, 2002, 6:38pm
I have suffered ch for three years now and I finally got a doctor to take me serious and he gave me a prescription for 50mg imitrex.  I was supprised when I picked them up and there was only 9 pills! I had 12 slammers (hope my slang is right, I'm new) in the first four days after that and when I went back the pharmacy they told me that my insurance would only let me have 18 pills in a month! what do I do ??? peperlake from salt lake city.

find other abortives that work for you such as imitrix pills, imitrix ns, imitrix shots, zomig, axert, amerge, maxalt, migranol ns, erotamine, oxygen, etc.  Then alternate the perscriptions. I am alternating between imitrix ns and axert.  If you are still falling through the cracks in pain then ask dr for pain meds to supplement what isn't covered by abortives such as percacet or vicadin.  The pain medicine may do nothing for you, it may dull the ha to make it tollerable, or it may make it so you feel no pain.  Good luck.

Have your doctor contact your insurance to request a Special Circumstances change to your prescription coverage to allow more doses per month.  If that doesn't work, Follow this advice from http://www.clusterheadaches.org/medications.htm

Need More Imitrex?

If you need more Imitrex then your insurance company will provide and your doctor is willing to prescribe it, you can contact Glaxo Smith Kline directly, They have a division called "Reimbursement Resource Center" ( the name implies you have to pay up front, but that is not the case), Call them at 1-800-745-2967 option #4, give them the information they ask for, your doctor's name & number, insurance company info, etc. and they will assign you a case worker who will contact you insurance company and hopefully get them to increase the number of doses.

Good luck!
