Title: TEMPORARY DRUG-FREE RELIEF
Post by rtiger on Aug 17th, 2002, 8:06am
At the onset of pain I apply a CHIP CLIP to areas around my eye for thirty seconds to several minutes.  This has prevented the full-blown attack.  I've been doing this for two months.  One night while in pain I happened to think of this.   It works for me nine out of ten times.  I use a clip approximately two and one half inches wide that is not sharp and dosen't slip.  Perhaps the pressure interferes with the transmission of pain?  I'm not a doctor.  Best of luck to all.

P.S. I think I got it---the clips you can use to keep the bag of potato chips closed once you open them.

It's a bag clip.  However, not all of them work.  The grip has to be firm and the edges shouldn't be sharp.  I tried several until I found one that held without slipping.  Then at the onset of pain I applied the clip (30 seconds to several minutes) to areas around my eye, brow and temple.  Most of the time this prevented the attack from escalating.  It looks comical but I'd do just about anything to get out of pain.

Jeez people!

I know what a Chip Clip is.  I have a few.  Now, rtiger, do you use just one and move it from place to place or do you use more than one.

I think what this would do would be cause a distraction from the pain.  This is the reason we feel compelled to bang our heads, use ice, hot water, etc.

But I know the clips you are speaking of and since I am a no meds girl, I would be inclined to try it as my main defence is distraction.

Be nice youse guys!  After all this person did not say this was a cure, only something that might give us a temporary reprieve.

Thanks rtiger!

Sherry

I've seen chip clips at supermarkets, discount stores, pharmacies, etc.  I use one and move it from place to place.  Not all types are comfortable to use or have the right amount of grip.  I am also a non-med person.  Using this method has prevented many attacks from becoming severe.  It does hurt some when applying the clip but it's not a bad kind of pain.  I hope this works for you.

Thanks Sherry.  I hope this works for you and everyone who tries it.

In my previous post I stated that I used one clip.  However, you have given me an idea.  Next attack I'll try using two or three at the same time.

Sherry -

Not knowing what a chip clip is and where to get it is not not being nice. It's not knowing, that's all.

If anyone tries this method, I'd like to hear from you.  Although I understand why some people take (or want to take) narcotics, drugs can eventually cause a whole lot of other problems.  Unfortunately the clip method might not work for the Kip 10, but most of the time it worked  for me.

It will be interesting to see how my family reacts to seeing me with chip clips stuck all over the side of my head.  LOL

Sherry,

Ah, yes.  But if this works and you are out of pain, you'll be laughing out loud with them.   ;)

For those who cannot find chip/bag/kitchen clips, try pinching the painful areas with your fingers.  This is a little more difficult to do but serves the same purpose.  I got a KIP 3 and didn't have a clip available so I tried this and it worked.

How do you get the clip clipped behind your eye?

Hi Big Mike,

It's not necessary to place the clip behind your eye.  By pinching the areas around your eye (including the brow and temple) the PAIN is relieved.  It has something to do with how the sensation of pain is transmitted.

Hope this works for you.

rtiger

P.S.  I recently found some decent clips (these were called kitchen clips) at the Dollar Tree store.
