I have been having my headaches only at night about 1 to 1.5 hour after going to sleep. This started 2 years ago and lasts for about 2-3 weeks every Jun - August. As of yet I have had no headaches during the day.
The pain lasts from 20 to 45 minutes....feels centered in the eye ball. Like someone has a knife and is digging in there or right behind it. It is always on the right side. I tear up on the right side and I prefer to walk until it begins to ease. I started the "water treatment" 2 days ago. The first night the pain was reduced some. Last night I had no pain at all.......I don't know if I am having "cluster" headaches or some other type.......I know I'm gonna keep drinking water till I almost drown if it stops these nightly visits!!!! I don't know how long I should keep up the water treatment.......

Reb -

Take the quiz on the right side to see if you fit the mode as a clusterhead. As far as water is concern, it is always a good thing. As a minimum, it flushes your body of toxins... I would continue the treatment until you have settled into a pattern of PF nights. Good Luck!

Rebel,

From what you are saying, you could be having clusters. but....I'm no doctor. Best thing you can do, is take the cluster quiz on the left. And go and see a neuro. I you follow the OUCH-link here, you can find a good one near you under "cluster help", "reccomended doctors"

Took the test, I'm in the right place -- I just feel like a real wimp after reading how so many others have these things at any during the day :-[ I don't see how anyone could function and be productive at their job!!!

My Dr. has me setup for an MRI in 2 weeks.....I'm not sure what that will tell us, but this web sight has helped alot! God Bless You All :)

I had an MRI done on my Dome 2 yrs ago. At least it can discount other things.... peace of mind is always good.

Rebel,

Ask your doc for verapamil in the meantime. It takes some time to become effective, so the sooner you start the better. Most ppl here say they have best result with the regular - that means not the slow released form.
Usual start dose is 240 mg/day, going up till the effective dosage is reached (most ppl use around 480)

As I said above, the "water treatment" seems to work for me, at least it did last night. ;D I will see if it works tonight. ::) I sure hope it does! In the past 2 years, this hasn't shown up until August and goes on for 1-2 weeks. With the water it stopped on the 3rd night. I will be away from all computers tomorrow until late. I will let you know how it went. If it keeps on coming I will talk to my Dr. about the drug you mentioned.

I had an MRI done 2 years ago as well - they found something because I had to go back a 2nd time a month later. The Dr. never told me what they were looking at, but she did tell me it wasn't growing. I was supposted to have a follow us last year, but forgot about it! So I guess we will see. ;)

Sheesh! I can't believe that the doc didn't tell you what they were looking at! I made mine show the images! I was like a 4 yr old... " what's that? and what's that? "
