Title: Verapamil has halted my cycle spectacularly Post by Maryse on Jun 24th, 2002, 11:40am Hello, little rabbits, I've returned to the fold after a long absence. I've had episodic clusters for 31 years. (The hiatus between bouts has slowly stretched to 2.5 years, thank god.) This time, one week into my 2-month cycle, I began taking 80 mg of Verapamil four times a day (lower doses allowed some level-8 bouts that required Imitrex). Result: I no longer have headaches, only slight twinges. More to the point: I discovered this weekend that I CAN DRINK ALCOHOL WITH IMPUNITY... What a lark! Verapamil is a very big deal indeed. What concerns me is that a sufferer who consults this site to see what new medications might be working cannot get information from the "medications" link on the left side of this page (it's merely a survey) and thus cannot do a search through the archives since he/she does not know the name of the drug in question (I had to go to Simon's clusterheadaches.org.uk site and its very good medication outlines to find that out). Best to all of you. Maryse |

Title: Re: Verapamil has halted my cycle spectacularly Post by Mastifflvr28 on Jun 25th, 2002, 12:57am I was checking through the OUCH site this morning to frantically print out my preferred meds for the new doctor I had to educate today. I was very surprised to see all the great Med info on OUCH. Haven't looked for about a year. My point is...the OUCH site has great med info AND Thank you BobP for all the GREAT info, organized, easy to find. I printed all this stuff in 15 minutes. Much to my surprise...and ALMOST disapointment, the new doc didn't look at my documentation, just started writing out scripts frantically :) btw...I DID force some education on her.:) Mast |

Title: Re: Verapamil has halted my cycle spectacularly Post by strider on Jun 25th, 2002, 2:57pm Hi Maryse! Glad to hear that the Verapamil is working! I just tried it last night, but I am only taking 80mg once at bed and it didn't work. I notice that you take it 4 times a day... I'm wondering if I am underdosed! Slammy 8) |

Title: Re: Verapamil has halted my cycle spectacularly Post by eyes_afire on Jun 25th, 2002, 7:26pm Hi Strider. I would say that you are underdosed. Many clusterheads need at least 240mg / day to notice an effect. |

Title: Re: Verapamil has halted my cycle spectacularly Post by Marijke on Jun 26th, 2002, 3:50am Hi strider, I also thing you are underdosed. I need 360mg a day - and I am a tiny female. Remember that verapamil can take up to two weeks to kick in. Marijke |
