Title: My best CH abortive
Post by Marc on Jun 11th, 2002, 9:43pm
At the first sign of an attack, I jump on my bike and pedal like there is no tomorrow. (No, I'm not big on exercise - I'm old and fat)

If I jump right on it, I can abort a CH in a few minutes and never get beyond a manageable level of pain. This is not a new idea, I have spoken with several Clusterheads who have reported good results using vigorous exercise as an abortive.

You decide what it's worth to you.....

Bicycle            =  $199.95
Helmet            = $  29.95
Abort CH's       = Priceless

Year ago, while in a cluster, I got hit at work one day.  I jumped on my bike to ride home.  After 3 or 4 blocks the headache was gone!

Last cluster this came back to me.  I tried doing squats when a headache hit.  I figured exercising the legs would send blood to those muscles and away from my head.  After doing about 30 squats, I sat down in my regular CH chair with an ice pack on my neck and did some deep breathing.  In less than 10 minutes the headache was aborted.  I killed the next 60+ attacks in this same manner, with the same success.

I've seen this mentioned in some CH articles.  I'm not sure if it's from the exertion, oxegenation from the breathing or what but it does help.

BTW - Marc isn't old and fat.  He's the typical Calfornia beach bum.  Well tanned, in good shape.  Lives about 6 houses from the pounding surf on Morro Strand Beach.  Life don't get no better, except maybe if you don't have CH.

Hey, I'm blushing here but I love you too Bob!  :-*

Bottom line - I really think a lot of CH sufferers could benefit from this alternate abortive.

If you have not tried it - what do you have to lose?
