Title: Imitrex pills vs. injections Post by Sweet_Landings on May 1st, 2002, 10:48am I am assuming from what I have read in the archives that even if the Imitrex pills are of no help to me whatsoever, the injection could provide relief. Is that correct? |

Title: Re: Imitrex pills vs. injections Post by NotH20 on May 1st, 2002, 1:00pm Sweet - I've been extremely fortunate with both the injections and the pills.....although the pills obviously take longer to help out.......I've had ch's for over 22 years and have been on the injections for approximately the last 10 years....there has NOT been one time that the injection did not work for me. ;D The obvious problem is making sure that you have enough on hand since there are such restrictions on the refills. It's scarey at first give yourself an injection and especially when you feel the meds starting to work - I personally feel it crawling up my back into my neck and the inside of my head feels really big....but let me tell you that any side effect that I've personally experienced is AOK with me as long as the pain is leaves. Good luck to you Sweets ..... NotH20 |

Title: Re: Imitrex pills vs. injections Post by Greg_A on May 1st, 2002, 8:14pm Sweets-- my experience with the pills vs injections is the time it takes to work. The pills take too long to work since they have to disolve and be digested. My HA is usually gone by time they start to kick in. My doc did mention to try drinking hot tea or coffee when taking the pills to help them get goin... but i didnt see any difference. The injection works beautiful, no disolving, digesting, etc... straight into the arm and to the head. approx 5min and totally pain free everytime. The first time i use the injection, about 5min later i was commenting that this isnt working either--then BAM, it seemed like right at that moment the pain had gone.... just like that. TOO COOL... |

Title: Re: Imitrex pills vs. injections Post by TooTall on May 2nd, 2002, 11:40am I've been doing the injections for about 5 years. Each time I visit the doc, he asks me if I want to try the pills or the inhaler. I ALWAYS turn him down because the injections work so well & fast. Kind of wierd at first, but after a while, it's no biggy. It can freak out others around you though. Yesterday I had shoot myself no fewer than 5 times. Doc definitely doesn't like that!! I say "whatever it takes baby!!". TT |

Title: Re: Imitrex pills vs. injections Post by LadyLuv on May 22nd, 2002, 11:21am ::) :D In the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to try the pill, nasal spray and the shots.. The nasal spray took approximately 20-25 minutes to work and than it only releaved some of the pressure; it did not stop the headache.. The pill took approximately the same amount of time and again only releaved some of the pressure and did not eliminate the headache entirely. The shot STOPPED the headache with-in five minutes and I was able to get back to sleep... |
