Title: Post Surgery Post by Rich D on Mar 9th, 2002, 4:50am I have not sean this topic covered before, although I've been away from the board for a couple of years. I was one of the few CH'er who had found relief. It had been 3 years since my last cycle. For 27 years my cycles have been very predictable. They started the end of November and last until the first of Febuary. So come the first of November I start taking 500mg Depakote/day. The HA cycle never starts, I quit taking the Depakote in early Feb and everything is fine. NO CYCLE FOR 3 YEARS. This year I have heart surgery on the 5th of Feb. It gets a little harry and I stay on the table for 6 hours. I recieved 18 units of blood and 41 IV's. My system is pretty much flushed out. I start a new CLUSTER Cycle. It seams the anestesia has neutraulized all previously taken medication. We start at square one again except this time I akso have coumaden to deal with as well. I don't know if it is the Vergin cycle or having been away for a few years but this cycle is killing me. I've had 8-10 HA's/day for the past week. The one I'm on now has been at a kip 2 for 3 hours. It was also between a 4 - 8 fot the previous 3 hours. I have never had a CH that lasted 6 hours before. Oxygen is not working, Imitrex is working marginally, I MAY BE REBOUNDING. I'm also taling 500mg Depakote?day and 40mg Predsonone/day. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

Title: Re: Post Surgery Post by Karla on Mar 9th, 2002, 11:44am You may want to try Verapamil. Lots of people have success with this medicine in preventing their ha. Another option is the shroom therapy. There are lots of posts in this section on where to obtain spores and also in archives on how to make tea if you are interested in going that route. Good luck in finding a pain free solution. |

Title: Re: Post Surgery Post by notseinfeld on Mar 10th, 2002, 1:10am Sure do feel for ya Rich. I like the Verapamil suggestion as I believe heart patients take this stuff anyway to lower pressure and ease blood flow. It's a calcium channel blocker and probably the first line of defense for CH sufferers unless it winds up not working===then on to second level, etc. I also like the Shroom idea as many people have had long remissions with it and I'm going to try it as soon as I can procure some. Might want to ask your doc if Verapamil is an acceptable alternative to whatever he'll likely recommend. Good Luck. |
