Title: Re: Verapamil sr and regular Verapamil Post by Ueli on Mar 7th, 2002, 6:19pm Jayne, I don't think it is a good idea to mix regular and slow release types of Verapamil. The very different uptake times make it difficult to guess what concentration throughout the day you are dealing with. If you take your regular Verapamil (the type recommended by Dr. Goadsby) in 3 batches separated be approximately 8 hours, the concentration will be sufficiently constant (at least, that's what works for me). Some time back there was a report of a guy who switched (for cost reason, at the advice of his pharmacist, duh :-[) from slow release to regular. At the switch-over time his blood Verapamil concentration skyrocketed and he ended up in ER, where he was brought back only with difficulties. So, I'd say: don't fiddle round carelessly with the two types of Verapamil ! I'd hate to lose such a nice gal as you :-* |

Title: Re: Verapamil sr and regular Verapamil Post by justin on Mar 7th, 2002, 9:01pm i read the same thing about switching. so i would say don't mix, but ask neuro. only he/she can say for sure. i doubt it though. i tried the switch last sept. turned out i had an allergic reaction to the SR and had to quit it so it would completely leave my system. then i had to start on the regular all over again., and we know it takes 3 weeks to start working. so that sucked. good luck jd |

Title: Re: Verapamil sr and regular Verapamil Post by Jayne on Mar 7th, 2002, 11:03pm Thanks for the response guys..I will tell you a little more of my story. I do not have health insurance and have to pay for all my meds. I have been taking Time released Verap and have quite a good response to it. Recently a secret cluster santa has sent me some regular verapamil, that's why I enquired if I can mix the two. Now I am nervous to play with the two types. I have never seen discussion on the board before regarding this matter. Thanks guys.........I will be carefull |
