Title: shrooms Post by justin on Mar 7th, 2002, 11:20am ok, so i'm going to amsterdam next week and a cycle just started up last week. i'm getting hit twice a day. 10am, 7pm everyday. imitrex only abort, sometimes O2 if weak enough, 400mg verapamil daily. shrooms. i've read a ton on this site. i don't have the time or patience to grow my own. i'm thinking about trying them in amsterdam but does anyone know if the recreational kind i might be able to buy there will have the same effect as the one discussed on this board. i also know it doesn't take a full recreational dose to get some relief. i'm not really intersted in getting high, i just want the CH to go away so i can enjoy my only vacation this year. well any advice is welcome by post or email. thanks! justin |

Title: Re: shrooms Post by dan on Mar 7th, 2002, 3:03pm I have CH and I have done shrooms several times. But I've never tried shrooms to relieve my CH. I will tell you this, if you plan on doing shrooms in Amsterdam, be prepared for the psychedelic effects that they are going to have on you, whether you want them or not. |

Title: Re: shrooms Post by pinksharkmark on Mar 7th, 2002, 4:51pm Justin: There are typically two species of mushrooms sold in the "Smart Shops" in Amsterdam -- Psilocybe cubensis, which for some reason people in Europe also call Stropharia cubensis. These are often referred to as "Mexican mushrooms" in Amsterdam... don't ask me why. The other species are Panaeolus cyanescens, Panaeolus tropicalis, and Panaeolus cambodginiensis. Just to make life more complicated, in Europe these species are sometimes called Copelandia cyanescens, Copelandia tropicalis, and Copelandia cambodginiensis. And, as a final twist, these three species are often lumped together and called "Hawaiian mushrooms" in Amsterdam. The Psilocybes are less potent than the Panaeolus... maybe only two thirds to half as potent, so you will need to take more of them to obtain the desired effect. On the other hand, they are also less expensive. Whether you buy Psilocybes (Stropharia) or Panaeolus (Copelandia), ask the guy at the shop what most of his customers consider a standard "recreational" dose to be, then do HALF that amount. Save the other half for a "backup" dose 4 or 5 days later if the first dose doesn't completely eliminate the headaches. Try as hard as you possibly can to do no Imitrex at all for 24 hours before doing the mushrooms... longer is better... and try not to do any Imitrex for at least 24 hours AFTER the mushrooms as well. Even if the headaches DO vanish, I strongly recommend not drinking any alcohol for at least a week, unless of course alcohol has never been a CH trigger for you. Please give us your report when you get back. pinky |
