Your chances of aborting the cyle arenot good without complimenting the pred. with a preventative. This is the plan of attack my neuro and I have agreed on for the next inevitable cycle:

After determining i am definitely going into cyle;
Start daily dosing of 480 mg of verapimil. Imitrex injections and oxygen for attacks.

1 to 2 weeks into cycle;
Prednisone taper and continue verapimil.

End of taper with breakthroughs;
Increase dosage of verapimil.

If the treatment doesn't work;
2 day hospital stay with IV DHE and Benedryll.

Once you determine what works and what doesn't (many years for me) there is little left to do but ride it out.

I would like to add that if you become chronic as I did, DO NOT continue to use prednisone. I went a couple of years without being able to get below 30 mg/day and the side effects have been pretty bad; Osteoporosis, back problems, early signs of cataracts, glaucoma, umbilical hernia, stretched stomach, round read face, constant foot pain, and hemorrhoids are just some. And now when I am able to get below the 30 mgs I'm face with the withdrawal symtoms of extreme muscle achiness and weakness that could last for a year or two.

I had a bad experience with prednisone- i think it was prednisone. One morning i went to get out of bed and i simply fell to the floor totally palsied out. I somehow managed to fling myself into the shower and i distinctly remember not being able to raise my arm to wash my hair. Ever since then i feel an aversion to the idea of trying prednisone. What crap we put ourselves through to be well!

i've got stories of prednisone use and another steroid dexamethasone. not as many as others, but basically i've used prednisone therapy 4-5 times and the dex only once. i will never use the dex again. the side effects are like prednisone X 10. horrible. the prednisone makes me crazy every time. except once. i can't concentrate and when i get tired i get phsycotic and start talking to my self and people that aren't there. and when i stop the pred i get all the muscle aches and what not. but it does stop the HA almost immediately. i think everyone reacts differently so I say to people to try the lowest does the Dr. thinks will work. for me was 20mg three times a day . might take a week for side effects to kick in though. as soon as anything does just consult your doctor. when i was on the dex i didn't consult my doctor and let it go. and then it had control over me and got out of control . i didn't know who i was anymore. so be careful. steroids do work , just be careful . they come with a price.
