Title: Verapamil Post by Ann on Feb 26th, 2002, 7:40am Hey Gang! I'm just wondering if anybody else out there gets serious palpitations from verapamil? I'm taking 3 times 120 mg a day and within an hour of taking my dose I get like a butterfly fluttering in my throat, shortness of breath etc. Am I the only one? Did I say butterfly??? I meant big fat giant crow!!! ;D Thanks and PFDAN to all! |

Title: Re: Verapamil Post by ejwrancher on Feb 26th, 2002, 9:43am I decided to take a pill and a half, morning and evening (which is 240 + 120 = 360mg x twice a day) because the 240 twice a day wasn't working. It seemed to have done some good, I haven't had an attack since Sunday night. All the Verapimil side-effects I seem to have is a little difficulty doing the #2 :o I get very compacted. Thank god for Bran Flakes hehe My doc gave me my first free sample of Imetrix Inj, used my first shot Sunday night and.....there is a god!! I timed it, took 6 mins. WOW where has this stuff been?? But after the increase in dosage, I am now a believer in the Verapimil - Indocin (150mg at Bedtime) Combo. Good Luck, I pray for those who battle the BEAST |

Title: Re: Verapamil Post by airbear on Mar 1st, 2002, 10:34am Hello all!!! It's been 2+ yrs since this thing visited last. But, as usual, decided to visit again. BASTARD!!! >:( The meds I usually take (Depakote 2000mg daily and Sansert 6mg daily) aren't what they used to be. The first dose left me VERY funky. To the point of where I won't take them. I am calling my physician to call my neurologist (HMO) to get me to change my meds. HELP!!!!!!! What is this Verapamil? IS it effective for cyclical CHs? Needing help as I am looking forward to 3 months of headaches. Happy happy, Joy joy. PF to all Airbear ;) |

Title: Re: Verapamil Post by Ueli on Mar 1st, 2002, 11:58am Airbear, Verapamil is the preventative of first choice for CH. It is a Calcium channel blocker, originally developed for heart disease. The trick is to take it in a high enough dose. For the heart the daily dose is around 240 mg, but for CH the effective dose is usually higher, for some up to 920 mg / day. I like to mention it one more time: Dr. Peter Goadsby, the world's leading researcher on CH, recommends the standard release version of Verapamil, not the slow release. Give Verapamil a try, it has certainly less side effects than Sansert. Ueli ;D |

Title: Re: Verapamil Post by Karla on Mar 1st, 2002, 12:34pm Verapamil can cause irregular heart beats and problems with the heart rhythm. It is a listed side effect. Call your dr. and let them know asap. I had this problem and my dr. had to make adjustments with the verapamil. Be carefull with the higher doses. |
