While going through a bad cycle, I found this great website. After 15 yrs of old school medicine for this living hell, I recieved the information I needed from some wonderful people on here.

I started O2 1 week ago, and it is truely a miracle abortive for me. I just can't believe how wonderful it has worked for me.

Anybody out there that is reluctant to go this route, don't be. Give it a try if you can.

I want to thank all of you that have helped me.
I especially want to thank RichardN, who has guided me through my first uses with O2.

Hey Brad

Your success and reporting of same is thanks enough. There are so many like yourself who've suffered for years/decades not aware that there really are alternatives to the horrible suffering all here know too well . . . AND the poor souls who are having their first experience with the beast and have great difficulty getting properly diagnosed and provided with working meds (preventatives & abortives).

So now you have the opportunity to educate your EMT friend, doc, med supplier . . . anyone else who might have contact with others suffering the ravages of our common beast.

hi,nice one richard,i too cant praise the peeps on here enough for pointing me in the right direction.while the o2 wont put an end to all this bollox,it will help you deal with it one hit at a time and give you alot more pf time,plus will ease the mental strain which is a major plus too,good luck mate,stuart

My partner's just been diagnosed with CH and have been reading all this wonderful stuff about O2. Do you just buy it in a tank, a canister or what? Where do i buy it from? Please excuse if I'm being really dumb, I'm just so desperate to find something to help him and eager to know more.

For 02, you need a prescription from a doctor. If your partner has been diagnosed with CH, he should talk to his doctor about it.

Read on about the O2 on the left hand side. Also read up on all other medications and treatments that are out there. I have suffered CHs for 16 yrs now. Up until I found this wonderful site a month ago, I knew nothing about O2. But I can say that it is a wonderful abortive method for me, and most people on here. He also needs to talk to his Dr. about a preventitive medication.

I can tell you that you found the right place when it comes to knowledge about CH. And the people on here are very willing to help anyone out. They sure did me.

To receive 02 from the GP in the UK is take the information freom OUCHUK there is a printable 02 form that helps and as long as he has been diagnosed 02 he cant be refused it.

You dont need a prescription as far as im aware. ;)

And giving it a cautious thumbs up. But I use the darn stuff up so fast - at 8-10 LPM one "E" size tank seems to drain in less than 30 mins use. Am I using the wrong kind of mask? The kid at the med supply place gave me a simple plastic one that covers my mouth and nose. There is no fillable bag below it... is this where I'm going wrong? And should I be getting a larger tank?

I've used the first of the two tanks I got in less than 24 hours. Here it is Friday afternoon where I live, and since I'm in mid-cycle I'll likely eat the other one up by this time tomorrow and be stuck until Monday pacing and hoping the Imitrex pills work.

Anyway, does the bag conserve the precious gas and is that what I need, would anyone know?

I also want to drop down to my local firehouse, see if the guys can help me score some oxygen cheaper than the $23 per E tank fill that the med supply charges.

Yes . . . you're wasting a lot of 02. With a non-rebreather mask, when you exhale the bag is collecting the 02 you're currently wasting. Also, the full bag allows you to take a really full breath of 02 . . . . at 15 lpm, the bag will fill in about 4 1/2 seconds.

It's probably standard prices, but in a city as large as Los Angeles, there's got to be scores of med 02 suppliers. See if they'll discount if you pick up your tanks. At the rate we use them, they'll make a good chunk of change. I'm fortunate that my supplier charges me a flat $10 per tank (I keep twelve).

If you can't get the 02 at a more reasonable price . . . Brew is right . . . you might want to go the welder's 02 route. Initial cost/tank rental probably varies from place to place, but the actual cost per litre of 02 is considerably cheaper.

You might want to go by the firehall anyway, tell them you have CH and was given the wrong mask. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave you one.

I am also new to O2 this year. Oh, what a beatiful thing it is! I have tried several times over the last five years to get a script for O2 but I have yet to find a doc. willing to write a script! I finally took matters into my own hands and purchased a welders tank. The inital investment was a little pricy but when you weigh it againts the price of all of the meds, you can actually save quite a bit.

Thank you to all of the folks here that have helped me with this. For the first time in many years I finally feel like I am in control of my CH again!

Firefighters.... man, are they just the best or what? In addition to being unquestioned heroes they're true nice guys. I went down to my local station and even though they'd never heard of CH, as you predicted Richard, they gave me a couple of non-rebreather masks without my prompting them. They couldn't help with the 02 question as they just get theirs from a central county source, but I'm planning on researching the welding stuff on Monday, and meanwhile will at least be conserving what I've got left in my tank with the new mask. After I left them I repaired immediately to a local Italian restaurant and returned with a large pizza - which surprised them. But the very least I could do. Thanks again for the suggestion!
