Title: Re: Doc recommends neck injection Post by Gator on Jan 22nd, 2008, 4:32am Sounds like nerve blocks which work for some and not for others. Usually, it is done with a mixture of lidocaine and a steroid such as dexamethasone. I haven't heard of using Pitcher Plant extract before, although in reading about the pitcher plant, it would appear that the doc would be using the extract for anti-inflammatory purposes. What the hell, right? Give it a shot (no pun intended) and see how it works. Please report your experiences with it for others to see. |

Title: Re: Doc recommends neck injection Post by vitaliy.se on Jan 23rd, 2008, 1:54pm Hello Travis, I tried neck injections (Lidocine and Triamcinolone)twice first time I thought it help me. My CH stopped in a week. At that time I didn't know it was CH (it was the usual end of cluster, in my case it lasts about 3-4 weeks). Next time I tried it when my next cluster started and it didn't help at all. Steroid are even more dangerous for health than verapamil and sumatriptan all together. I DO NOT recommend it. PS Have you ever seen a singe article in the internet that says that Pitcher plant helps in case of CH? Regards, Vitaliy S |

Not nessesarily true. Depends on how the steroids are administered. I use a predisone taper evey cycle and it has saved me from prolonged agony many many times. |

Title: Re: Doc recommends neck injection Post by monty on Jan 23rd, 2008, 4:01pm Haven't heard about pitcher plant extract either, but did come across this: >> Curr Pain Headache Rep. 2004 Dec;8(6):427-34. Biologic poisons for pain. ... Sarapin, derived from carnivorous pitcher plants, has been injected for regional analgesia in human and veterinary medicine, but efficacy is controversial. ... PMID: 15509455 >> Looking at some of the other research, it doesn't seem that adding Serapin makes a nerve block any more effective, but it doesn't seem to hurt, either. |

I'm not telling steroids will kill you at once. But in general they cause more harm then O2, verapamil and sumartiptans all together(unless you have heart problems). Regards, Vitaliy S |
