Title: 60 days no CH! Post by amos on Nov 27th, 2007, 2:36am Background: I’m 47, suffering from Chronic CH for 9 years, 2007 was the worst year. 4-6 times per day/night. In Sep-2007 I spent 12 days at Ecuador South America- with the Sequoia tribe. The treatment given by the Indian Shamans was based on the Ayahuasca plant. Since then, (more then 60 days) I had 3-4 headaches only in the past 60 days. most probably due to too much alcohol…. I tried Mushrooms in the past, and it works for some time, and I know it is difficult to find logic “chemical” correlation between Ayahuasca and CH like you can find when using Psilocybin, But in most of pharmaceuticals trials even the “placebo” works. It works for me, and I hope it will continue… I sleep at nights! http://www.biopark.org/ayahuasca.html :D [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=bow.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] |

Title: Re: 60 days no CH! Post by tommyD on Nov 27th, 2007, 6:48pm Thanks for the report. Ayahuasca can vary depending on the shaman who is mixing it up, but generally there are two main ingredients: DMT (dimethyltryptamine) and an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) both from any number of plant sources. DMT is an indole-ring hallucinogen with a molecule that is very similar to psilocybin. But DMT is some real serious shit which can produce very bizarre and intense hallucinations. DMT taken orally has little or no effect as it is broken down in the stomach by the monoamine oxidase enzyme. The MAOI is there to prevent the breakdown and allow DMT to be taken orally. Only a few folks have reported using DMT for cluster headaches - not enough reports to say if it is effective or not, but due to its structure it may well be as effective as psilocybin, or more so. In your case, amos, it apparently works. But becasue of the potentially intense trip, DMT it is not recommended for cluster use. As with the other indoles, there might be a low medicinal dose with minimal psychoactive effects, but who knows what that dose might be for any given person taking any given batch of ayahuasca mixed up by any given shaman, etc.... DMT (and ayahuacsa) is illegal in the US (without a religious exemption) and probably other western countries. But we're all guilty of possession because it occurs naturally in the brain. -tommyD |
