Title: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 7:30am I read the trx tip a few yrs back and just said "I don't think I can give myself a shot like that." I'm ok with the auto injector though. I was wondering if anyone has modified an auto injector to just give 1/2 the vial. I was thinking of trimming down the white piece shown below so it only pushes the stopper 1/2 way down and then using a normal injector for the second 1/2, later on. Thoughts? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/rustyhooks/gff007.jpg |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 11:27am Interesting theory. It must be, I'm sat here with two pens in bits and an empty vial. I'm not sure the mechanism would fire if you cut down the white plunger. The vial is only two thirds full of trex, which means from the rubber stop to the end of the vial is one inch, so you'd have to cut off approx half an inch of the firing pin (still with me?) :D Give it a go, might work? |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 11:48am As is noticeable in both replies,....this seems like such an easy, simple fix. Now,....like most things in life, there are usually no quick fixes (other than duct tape). That's why I posted this, thinking I must be missing something. as for it not firing right, are you reffering to the fact that it won't re-compress the white piece when you put it away in it's holder? If so, it can be pushed back in manually with a pen or any object like that. I would just go ahead and try it but I have 6 shots left and no refill for 23 more days so,.....I don't want to risk throwing this precious commodity out the window |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 11:52am Yes, I know it can be pushed back, I'm still thinking, infact, just experimenting when I can find my small saw :) It does seem too simple to be true? |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 12:10pm If you saw the plunger off flush with the edge, it takes off a little under half an inch. You seem to have taken of a tad under. It will be interesting to see if at works and if it does, how much trex is injected. Let us know. Still can't find mi bloody saw. ;;D |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 12:28pm Ive tried it on an empty vial, and it doesn't expose the needle. That of course could be because the vial is spent. Only way to know for sure is to try it for "real" |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 12:28pm lmao,...I do custom fabrication on cars as a hobby. When I was learning upholstery, I learned that you can only cut something "too short",............once. ;) ;;D on 11/09/07 at 12:28:16, SteveY wrote:

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 12:32pm ok,...just tried mine and it exposes the needle perfectly. Is this one of the ones you broke down? Maybe something isn't sitting right somewhere. |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 12:56pm Tried it with the cut down plunger, no needle, there can't be, using it on a spent vial there is no resistance as the grommit is in the bottom of the vial and the plunger doesn't reach it. Tried pulling the grommit back and using the shortened plunger, that fires the needle. JFDI and let us know ;) |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by SteveY on Nov 9th, 2007, 1:15pm I don't think this will work. I've tried it refilling the vial with water and using the cut down plunger. By cutting the plunger down, there is nothing to hold the needle in postion i.e. Keep it protruding beyond the safety catch. I wouldn't risk wasting a vial. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. :( |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by billyjoe on Nov 9th, 2007, 1:23pm I think most of us never thought we'd be junkies :) However, you get used to it and it's not so bad. Even better is when you don't need it. When you do to manually, if you pinch the skin and inject, you barely notice it. |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 1:31pm Shit,...I used the longer plunger in my test, lol. Tried it with the short one,...no needle. It can't be from plunger resistance because I used a dead vile on the long one and the needle came out. PS- When you self administer, do you go into a vein like a junkie or into meat? |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by LeLimey on Nov 9th, 2007, 1:53pm The injection just needs to be subcutaneous so jab into the "meat" as you so elegantly put it!! |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by lashultz on Nov 9th, 2007, 2:01pm There are six mil vials available, that you can draw your own shots with a syringe. I used to be able to sometime get three doses this way. |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by JohnM on Nov 9th, 2007, 3:56pm Ok - I'm a bit late into this post but here goes.... IT DOES NOT WORK - don't waste your time. I tried this idea myself years ago. When the cut down "white piece" fires it does so with such force that the plunger in the vial just carries on down despite the shorter white piece. Sometimes it injects all the dose, sometimes just most of it, never just half as planned - it is quite hit and miss. I wasted a perfectly good autoinjector and several vials of imigran trying this out. I resorted back to the "stab and Q tip" imitrex tip after that. John |

Title: Re: Trex Auto injector modification Post by inyoureye on Nov 9th, 2007, 7:39pm Man, guys, call me a fag but I can't bring myself to stick myself with the needle, lol. The pain is nothing compared to a hit, I'm sure, it's a mind set thing. Any other suggestions?? If not, are there any more pointers I need to know other than not to hit a vein when doing self administration? Thanks for all the help today ;) |

Naw, I won't call you a fag, that would offend a couple of guys here...LOL I'm a needle phobe, but I've gotten over it. I still ask my wife to shoot me up if she's available. Regarding missing a vein: If you stick a 1/2" needle in the top of your thigh, mid way between your knee and your groin, you won't hit any. Neither will you do so in your upper arm (deltoid muscle region) or in the fleshy part of your belly. I pinch up some flesh, rub it with an alcohol prep pad, and jab it in and inject it over a second or two. Another rub with the alcohol prep pad then I'm done. I don't know if this helps or not, but it works for me, when the O2 doesn't. Ray |
