Title: Single Most Effective Treatment/Med/?
Post by JohnMcCloy on Nov 2nd, 2007, 9:59pm
I think we all have that one routine or specific component to our treatment that seems to stand out as the most effective be it oxygen, imitrex, kudzu, red bull or exercize.

For me I found that as soon as I got a shadow If i broke into strenuous Shadow boxing I was able to curb my attack or minimize it severly.

Anyone else have that one miracle worker for them?

RC seeds, all the way! Still stunned at how well they've worked to keep the beast at bay!

The one that has delivered the most consistent relief for me as an abortive has been oxygen.

Preventative - methysergide maleate (Sansert).

Mushrooms containing psilocybin--no contest.

+1 on O2!  Kicks beast ass without any side effects.  Even energy drinks will keep me staring at the bedroom ceiling if I drink them too late in the day.  Trex makes me feel crappy for about 12 hours.

Definately O2 (but with a clustermasx).  Due to meds I'll be on, I can't do the seeds/shrooms route, so for me it's O2 in combo with kudzu & taurine.

Clusterbuster treatments (psilocybin and LSA containing seeds) as preventatives, and oxygen as an abortive.

I use O2 with no mask and hold my breath for about 20 seconds between inhalations (I turn off O2 while holding breath to conserve my gaseous gold)after 6 to ten reps I then lay down and do a big cat stretch (with lungs full and still holding breath and then exhale).

Most importantly with O2 usage that I haven't seen on any posts is that for most effective permeation of 02 into the body is that you should exhale completely until you cant anymore and then inhale the same way.

It seems to me that the cat stretch while holding breath might slightly elevate the blood pressure and short out the attack.

I also use mushrooms as a prophylactic which reduces frequency, duration and intensity of the CH's for me. YAYYYY MUshrooms!!!

I take NO pharmaceuticals at all, mostly because those companies don't have a schmick about what is going on in there and I ain't gonne be their guinea pig no more. (Med free since 2004 and CH'er since Nov. 1992).

Let me know how you make out! Good luck and PF wishes for everyone!!!
PM's welcome!

That's kind of insulting to those of us for whom one or more pharmaceuticals actually work well.

Looks like I should, however, buy stock in kitty litter or yarn ball companies! ;;D

It's Topamax for me, but I gotta agree about education. I certainly learn something new about this condition every day, mostly from you guys.

Hello Linda
Many thanks to you and assisting me & upon stumbling upon my site.Perhaps you can PM me with your "Fill in the Blank" & thank you for opening my eyes to realizing that there are things that can be done to stave off the attacks.
I have yet to meet a fellow CH sufferer in my everyday life so I am glad to be able to share though I should be sharing more often. How are you?

I hate to give BZZZZ any credit cuz Lord knows it goes right to hbis head....but damnit he's right this time, knowledge is power!!!

My #1 silver bullets are oxygen for abortive and lithium as my prevent. Both have worked miracles for me in giving me my life back,

John,  I can see why I confused you with this.  I was referring to John BBzzzzz with my comment.  We know each other well enough for me to tease him like that.  Sorry about the confusion.  From now on I will just call him Mr. BB.   lol

Watch it with those two combined, Wayne. I read a study that showed a higher risk of serious heart problems when combining calcium channel blockers with the effects of taurine and caffeine. You might want to Google it.

Thanks for that Brew, I did google it and found this article http://med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Taurine

I suppose that like any med you got to be careful. I went to see my doc and he reckons I'm fine so far but shouldn't push it. Having said that the verap has me well under control so i use Red bull seldom these days. Everything in moderation hey!
