Title: Your successful treatments to "break" a

What medications, treatments, or therapies have you successfully tried to "break" your cycle? My doctor's theory is that by giving relief from the cycle, even temporarily, it may help "reset" the clock and end the cycle. Over the past five years with this doctor, the theory has never worked for me.

Some of the meds I have tried include:

Dexamethasone (steroids) for five to seven days, starting off high and tapering off. The drugs are great, and I am typically pain free while on them. However, 24 hours after coming off the drugs the cluster is back and more severe. Every time.

Five days of a 24-hour triptan like Frova - no help, although I normally rebound coming off them.

Have you had any success stories with any "breaking" treatments?

I have successfully broken - or at least supressed - several cycles with this treatment:

And I have read a couple hundred reports of people succesfully breaking cycles, or at least finding significant relief,  with indole-ring hallucinogens.

#1 Ditto Tommy.

#2 Find a new doc, one who preferably knows something about CH.

Exactly what TommyD has said.  Unfortunately, not always easy to find.  Currently trying to grow my own!

TommyD, taking LSD or mushrooms broke the cycle, or relieved, your cluster headaches? I'll have to dig around the board for more info on this. Sounds crazy!

VietVet & Shedz, Oxygen alone broke your cycle? Oxygen has been a great abortive for me, but it seems to have no effective on the cycle itself.

No these have never broken a cycle but help control it. I'm not sure if a cycle can be broken, unless what yr after is a preventative rather than abortive?

I'm another one!! I agree with Tommy here.
The steroids can be a big help in stopping the CH's temporarily, but that's it. If you don't want to try a clusterbuster method, you need to find a preventitive. Usually, a doc will use the steroids to give you a break while starting you on a preventative at the same time. This gives the prevent a chance to build up in your system a bit, so once the steroids wear off, you won't get hit again.
Hope this helps!!

Keep us posted. We're here to help each other out, and like to know if things are working for you or not.

Take care,
Adam

Clusterbusters - never needed more than two doses to break a cycle and O2 as abortive.

It's great when the drugs do work.

lots of luck

The only folk that I have ever heard of successfully breaking a cycle are the folk who used the methods described by TommyD above. All other methods just control the cycle so its as unitrusive as possible.

methinks your doc has no idea what he's talking about!

Try taking 1.5 grams of dry shrooms, steep it in a cup of hot, but less than boiling, water for 15 minutes, sweeten with a little honey and drink it down. Be aware that you might  [smiley=laugh.gif] giggle  [smiley=laugh.gif] for a while.

Do taper off triptians before trying this, and visit
www.clusterbusters.com for more details.

if done correctly there is no less than a 50% chance that this will help you.

Its a coin flip...  [smiley=huh.gif] is it worth a chance? [smiley=huh.gif]

Good Luck
Van

Me too, the only thing that has broken a cycle and keep me pain free is psilocibin, and I've tried all the conventional medications before, never more....

For 6yrs Topamax was my silver bullet...And then this years cycle started....and I wholeheartedly agree with Tommy D indole rings are what broke my cycle...we just need more studies to be done statistics to prove the effectivness  of this treatment option...PFDAN to all....         Chris
