Title: Mushie Question
Post by jimp63 on Oct 15th, 2007, 3:40pm
Great news.  The bag is white, I have mycelium!!!  Has anyone here used this mycobag beore?  What are the  next steps?  I have read the entire Clusterbusters site, I want to hear from someone who has experienced the cultivation aspect of this therapy if you don't mind.  Again, thanmks everyone for being there.

My bag stayed white for about a month untll I realized that they weren't getting enough heat, I moved them to the top of the refrigerator just for the night and when i woke up in the morning, shrooms were growing like crazy.  I didn't like the looks of them smooshed up against the bag so this is what i did.  Got myself a big bottle of purrel (hand sanitizer) and doused my hands and arms in it. once they dried, I cut the bag open and pulled the whole thing out of the bag and placed it into a clear rubbermaid container that i wiped out previously with the purell as well.  Drill lots of holes in the rubbermaid container.  Attatch the lid and try to keep it on something warm, NOT HOT. You will have shrooms within a few days.  When the caps fully open, twist  the stems at the base and your all set! Dry them how you wish. If you need more info feel free to pm me!

Good luck!

Thanks for responding.  I didn't think I would ever hear back from someone who actually had success with this.  I followed directions and broke up the growing medium once it started turning white, gave it a few shakes, and put it back into the warmth.  That was about 5-6 days ago.  I'll be checking on them today to see how things look.  I am pumped about the potential of utilizing this therapy.  Like you say "Damn Head!!"  I'm hoping for the best.  Thanks for your support.

Hey Chris, what temp is okay after the mycobag is completely white?  I have them under lights for 12 hours and nothing so far.  Been about 1 1/2 weeks.
Jimp - good luck

the bags should be kept from 70-80F depending on the substrate. dung/straw heats up alot so 70F is ideal. if you are using a grain based substrate you can go up to 80F. if your substrate goes above 86F your mycelium may stall out because of high temps.  thermal death occurs at 101F or over.  if your bag is fully colonized dont worry about temps. 70F is fine.  you should expose the bag to light to promote fruiting. it can take up to 2 weeks to see fruits especially if going invitro(in the bag). casing is another option which will provide better yields. this info is presuming you are using P. cubensis. other strains have different growth perameters. everyone with cultivation questions feel free to ask. ;)

Well, yeah, but it was started a few months ago. Wish someone had pointed it out then ;-)

Although there isn't anything illegal about talking about growing mushrooms, this isn't a forum where this discussion should be taking place, in my opinion. These types of discussions can tend to stray places that they shouldn't.

I'd probably suggest to DJ that he take it down, just so others don't add to it now or in the future. Jonny?

There are lots of places these questions can be answered. DJ shouldn't have to even think about whether or not he should worry about this, IMHO.
