Title: New Medication?
Post by Jill on Oct 10th, 2007, 10:27am
Hi there...

Has anyone ever heard from Sandomigrin also known as pizotifen?

We just came across here in Sweden and evidently it is a new medication here. They told us that it was a triptan but from what I read it is also an antihistamine (I think). The doctor and pharmacist said that it has had good results when studied for clusters.

The pills come as 0.5 and you start out with one per day and then go up to three per day. It is kind of a preventative.

I havent been able to find anything saying that they have it in the US and I have not had my neurologist mention it. And I figured that there are people from all over on this board, someone might have heard something.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

Jill

Glad to see you actively searching, Jill.

Briefly checking, I ran across sites which require registration and also many access errors.  What I only was able to access was:

Quote:
Pizotifen Pizotifen can be used as a second-line treatment. The dose is gradually increased to 1.5 (-3) mg/day divided into three doses. The side-effect is fatigue, which subsides after a few weeks, and weight gain.

PizotifenPizotifen is also counted among the migraine-specific medications, but has an indication that entails prophylactic long-term treatment. This product should therefore be compared more readily to beta blockers such as migraine prophylaxis than with triptans. Pizotifen has not been studied in the systematic reviews or meta-analyses that we have identified.

There is about 60 plus pages more but widely ranging on much other medications.  This is where what you referred to is mentioned, which I see you seem to have equivalent or more knowledge of already except I see a different reference in relation to triptans, but this is all unverifiable by me.

Always remember Bobw's offer is an open door too.

I used Sandomigran when I was misdiagnosed/mistreated as migrainer. The only advantage that easy to swallow 'cos small enough. Sorry but my  [smiley=twocents.gif]
