Title: Re: workout supplements Post by assaultme on Sep 3rd, 2007, 5:29pm I finally have something useful to add that may benefit someone here. If you workout and take any supplements, beware!!! Many are safe regarding blood vessels like proteins , but some are not. I learned the hard way. (at least, that is what I think) Some build increased muscle mass by allowing more blood to get to the muscles. If you haven't figured it out yet, these supplements actually dilate blood vessels. At least this is the claim when I researched them before I was diagnosed with CH. Yes, I messed up and took some before workout...force of habit I guess. Many are just sold as things like: fat burner mega macho man blah, blah. So you might not even know. Read on the web as to exactly what your supplements do. It may save you an attack. Now, I don't know much about CH, but I do know something about supplements. I certainly don't expect anyone to take my advise as scientific proof of any kind. But common sense tells me you ought to at least read about your workout supplement and how it might affect your CH. Consider, there is a whole lotta foo-foo in the vitamin & supplement genre' and much of the "clinical studies" by the manufacturers are dubious at best. It doesn't hurt to talk it over with your Doc and maybe in the meanwhile give em a break. There are several that claim vascular expansion. Nitric Oxide is the one I believe caused me an attack. I'm not giving medical advise by saying it makes sense to stay away from supplements that are questionable as it relates to vascular expansion. You don't "need" them and any competent Doc would be able to give correct advise as to what is safe. I hope this helps someone avoid unnecessary attacks. Regards, Dave |

Title: Re: workout supplements Post by Guiseppi on Sep 3rd, 2007, 8:45pm I learned the hard way that creatine, when I'm on cycle, is a MAJOR trigger for me. You're right, the supplements don't go thru the same scrutiny as medicines, even though many have very powerful qualities. Information is king! Guiseppi |

Title: Re: workout supplements Post by DennisM1045 on Sep 4th, 2007, 9:23am My son is into Body Building. I was trying to loose weight and he suggested that I try two supplements: Hoodia and Glucosamine + Chondroitin. Within a week I was in CH hell. Stopped the supplements and the HAs stopped to. Lesson learned ;;D The hard way :-/ -Dennis- |
