Because drugs are a for profit industry and the mark up is atrocious.

Tell us something we don't know :D
I was paying $142.00 for the Stat injections, until I meet the UnitedHealthcare deductible.  Then the copay was $4.20.  Unfortunately, I had to spend about $2000 before that happened.

It's just a rip off.  They will tell you they need to fund research, blah, blah.

brewcrew,

I have been reading the board and just had another cycle start July 28th so yes I am back and promise to behave this time.

seriously, it is a bad cycle and insurance problems.

You don't just decide to invent something and then start selling it. It has to be tested, tested some more, then retested before the FDA will even consider looking at it. Then they make the manufacturers jump through some incredibly high and small hoops before they'll grant them a license to sell the stuff. I think I heard that it's a minimum of seven years from invention and patent to drug store shelf. All the people involved in the development of that substance and the marketing of it need to be paid for those seven years before they make dime one in profit off of it.

If you want to thank somebody, thank our overbloated government bureaucracy.

10-4. Welcome back, but consider sticking around when you're not in cycle. There are others who can use the support.

I hope this bad one is short-lived.

I understand that Glaxo-Smith Kline's patent for Imitrex runs out next year.  That will open the door to generics.  I truly hope that that will change things and big pharma will take it in the ass for once.

You know, this thread was sinking into oblivion until you guys had to bump it back up with this crap.

And last week, people were bitching at me and others for posting stuff that kids might see.

Allayez, go play trolls and cops somewhere else.

Just gotta say, this board has turned ugly. When I first found this board it was the greatest thing going, and I started to post, first time I've ever posted, anywhere. But now it seems this board is just garbage. Everybody with their teeth out, showing up on every topic? Why?

Maybe you'd be interested in going somewhere where the members aren't as interested in keeping their living quarters free of trash.

Sorry, while I know that Superirish is a troll, and an extremely annoying one at that...I'm with Tommy regarding the pic. My kid reads this board, and while I'm careful to be sure I supervise her... I'm not 100% sure she never visits on her own.
I still think it's much better to ignore this POS. Completely.

I know you are not interested in Hungarian prices but ...
Since sumatriptan's patent right is expired a lot of generic pharma manufacturer started making "new" sumatriptan drugs. A Czech pharma company makes Cilie pills (50 & 100 mg sumatriptan) and sells in Hungary exactly on (Glaxo's) half price. Unfortunately they don't produce injections

True.  And I would like to apologize to everyone and especially Bob Johnson, a true gentleman and a scholar whose advice I failed to follow.

I take the liberty of quoting what Bob wrote in another of these SuperIrish threads.

Bob Johnson wrote:

Quote:
Part of a message I posted on another site about dealing with uncivil people & messages:

"5. I'd suggest that you work from a position of "intelligent selfishness", that is, don't read or respond to people who you find troublesome or offensive. I suspect that most of us can get the tone of a message from reading a few words. If it's going in the wrong direction, scroll past/delete it. "Selfishness" says, don't read the whole thing and think about a response for this will only arouse distress or some level of internal upset. Responding won't change the other person and your effort will add to your frustration. "Selfishness" says, engage with those who are civil, don't encourage the uncivil by responding to them.

"6. This is not an argument for avoiding difference. An all male group (on the subject of prostate cancer--talk about a subject for passion) I belong to often has intense debates. For the most part, they are based on medical information, informed judgments, and wrestling with evaluations of medical information. Intense, but generally respectful.

"Problems arise when the issue moves from the issue to the person. Folks who personalize, either what others write or what they say in response, will tend to move into interpersonal conflict. The best single way to avoid uncivility is to use discipline is keeping your words/thoughts on the topic, not on the other person's motives, intentions, etc. (A disadvantage of electronic communications is that it allows for impulsive behavior. Self-discipline, or an attitude of civility, would be served by typing the message, then putting into the "drafts" box until you cool down. It's interesting how many of my messages don't make it past this point!)"

Wise words.

And oh, by the way, Imitrex IS expensive.
