Title: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by JenniferD on Aug 2nd, 2007, 12:40pm Tomorrow I learn a new thing: how to be a demanding, take-no-NO'S-for-an-answer clusterhead. Tomorrow I WILL leave that office with a prescription for o2. Bitch in training Jen |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc Post by Brewcrew on Aug 2nd, 2007, 12:46pm Good luck, Jen. You can be demanding, you can refuse to take no for an answer. But if you enter the office with any attitude, check it at the door. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. ;) |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc Post by JenniferD on Aug 2nd, 2007, 1:09pm nope, no attitude at all bill :) Just ready to fight for what I need, should I need to fight for it :) But thanks for the friendly reminder. |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc Post by JenniferD on Aug 3rd, 2007, 5:28pm I never was very good at demanding anything :-/ Here's the convo: We talked about the benefits of o2, told him about how well it works as a first line abortive w/out the drugs. We talked about how prescribing a pill as an abortive takes too long to get into the system to be truly effective. We talked about the OUCH convention, the speakers, Pete's instructions on correct use and safety. I told him I wanted the o2 because I don' t have an abortive yet that works for me OTHER than that. His answer: "I am familiar with clusterheadaches and that o2 is used as an abortive in acute attacks. I'm concerned that insurance won't cover it." I replied that I don't have insurance and that I'd pay for it anyway. He cringed and said that its too expensive. Doc: "But I've never prescribed it for clusterheadaches and I'm really uncomfortable with doing that. I'd rather have you come here and we can administer it and you can be monitored. I usually prescribe it to my COPD patients and I worry about them even at the low flow rate. And at the higher rate of 8-10 lpm's, its so risky for heart problems and incorrect use of the non-rebreather mask. There are also problems with too much o2 in the system at that high a rate" He referred me to a neurologist and gave me a prescription for vrap and ergotamine. FUCK. He asked: "Do you have any questions?" I laughed and said, "no, do you?" He laughed and said "yeah, you probably know more about this than I do!" I said, "THAT'S why I'm trying to get the oxygen!" He said sorry, but we'll try to get you hooked up with a neurologist. There are no neuros where I live, and the closest (50-60 miles away) are booking appts now for October. So I'm right back where I started. :'( |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by phil_h on Aug 3rd, 2007, 6:29pm my first and second neuro wouldn't rx o2...fired them both...before my appt. with third neuro , i took the info to my pcp ...he called it in 1 hour later ... had to leave work to receive it that afternoon ..... all 3 of my docs have received a folder of printouts from this site and we've reviewed them and they..we are on the same page....i had only short term benefits from most abortives.......o2 has a 60 % success rate with me and when it works it is a rapid abort....don't give up phil h |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by lionsound on Aug 3rd, 2007, 6:40pm THIS MAKES ME SO MAD!!!! >:( not at you, Jen:) ..at your Doc. 1. Get a new doc!!!. Unless there's some medical reason he can't give it to you this is stupid. There doesn't seem to be. HE'S the the one afraid to use it..it's oxygen....OMG!!! a million percent safer than 90% of what he prescribes on a daily basis AND it's a known abortive if he bothers to look anything up. the man is not practicing good medicine as far as i'm concerned. 2. Call me this weekend. DO you still have my number? if not PM me and i get it to you. 3. I have the contact information for Dr. Pugach. The expert that spoke at the convention and maybe we can get you hooked up with him or we can at least get your doc info. YOU are important and you are RIGHT!!! We'll help you!! I also know peeps here on the board have info about how to get tanks with out a script too. |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by barry_sword on Aug 3rd, 2007, 7:02pm Agree on the new Doc. I take 15 LPM and stop these *^#@ in 4 to 6 mins flat if I catch it before it goes full blown on me. I have about a 3 to 5 minute window to do this. O2 rocks! I am covered 24/7 with my portable tanks in the car. Really hope you can get it Jen, it really worked for me. Vibes heading to you. Barry |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by nani on Aug 3rd, 2007, 7:04pm Hey, Jen...sorry the guy was such a jerk. Since you're willing to pay out of pocket, why not consider welder's O2? |

Title: Re: tomorrow to the doc (updated) Post by JenniferD on Aug 3rd, 2007, 7:15pm Rori, I have your number buried somewhere in the junkpile that is my purse. I'll give you a call this weekend. I think I'm going to call my old gp, the one up in Fredericksburg who has ch too. I only stopped going to him cuz of the drive up there and hoped this new one would be as good as he has been. NOT. I've probably had ch longer than he has been alive! Nani, I am definitely considering it. Nowhere around here to get it though, just down in Richmond. HOLY SHIT I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!!! ummmmmmmmm I have amazing bosses. (One of em even knows of my different "choices" and gave me the thumbs up) They ALWAYS need welding stuff. ok.... ummmm. how can I do this? |
